Allright they are Chebbys, but just out of couriosity:

There are lots of 1947-54 Chevy 3100 pickups for sale at eBay,

all are without engine and transmission,

all are said to have new intact grille (chrome looks perfect),

most say "old Navy display" and "been inside storaged".

Where are they coming from, what is the history, why no engine,

how come new grille in all of them?

They put them inside old navy clothing stores and sold Tshirts out of the beds.

Well, well, what do ya know...

...even the oddest things have reasonable explanation.

Thus, in fact, these truck do not have common background from day one. What I mean they have been "recruited at old age" for the store display duty... (E.g. they have not been property of the Army or Navy I suppose *)

*)After viewing the rag store link Dennis posted, I realize the company has nothing to do with Navy surplus or anything...

Therefore the actual condition under the blue paint may be whatever?

The Stores had a string of these trucks made up by a company that does theatrical props and retail display pieces. Apparently part of their deal was they got them back or had first refusal when the Store Didn't want them anymore. They were basically gutted of running gear and gastanks, some have glass and interior parts.

The Old navy chain sells cut rate Chinese and Indonesian made clothing that fits poorly, shrinks alot and falls apart early. Their marketing is of much higher quality than any of their merchandise.

Our local store still has its truck and when I asked the manager about when and where it was going she developed a blank stare, much like the look she got when my wife returned a Bathrobe gift that came apart after the first washing.

they are just props, I drove my truck over to the store in my area the manger could not believe my truck actually worked. I told him my truck was restored and I could do the same to the one in his store. We went in and opened the hood and I was surprized to see that it was like a bill board nothing but a shell, the seat inside was cardboard, very depressing I was hoping to see a 216 with a trans attached. they should be ashamed faking out the youth of America:cool: what a shame!

There was an extensive thread about these trucks on the HAMB. The company had movers come and get the trucks, and got to keep them. They turned around and sold them on epay. They look nice, with a fresh paint job, new chrome, but they have no engine, no title. The local stores truck had cardboard stuffed in the cab corners and bondo over.
