Well I've ripped it apart and working on putting it all back together. I'd have more pictures but my digital camera was acting up and alot of them came out pretty blurry or too dark. I have a rear out of a mid 90's Ranger mocked in place and seem to sit nicely too. If I have to run spacers to get it back to stock width it doesn't look like I'll need much or I could go with wider wheels to compensate. What suprised me was the stock shitfter sits perfectly in there too!!

Hope these pics work and I'll be adding more as I get better ones.

Forgive my ignorance, but is the last picture an adapter plate? if so who makes it? I was under the impression, after seing several pictures of Mr Coatney's set up that it was a bolt on set up... meaning that there are mods needed but no adapter.....thanks for any info. MackG.:D

Paul Curtis of KVA Products produces the kit which was $290.00 when I checked with him. The kit includes the adapter that adapts from the MoPar bolt pattern transmission to the General Motors transmission bolt pattern, a plug to fit the crankshaft/flywheel to hold the inputshaft bushing, and the correct 14 spline clutch disc. Paul's phone number is 586-296-2488 or his partner Jim's phone number is 586-776-9760. I do not think that you can do it like Don Coatney did any cheaper if you have to hire the machine work done. If you didnot want to run a 5 speed the adapter with the correct clutch disc would allow you to run any 4 speed that fits a GM car or truck bell housing.

Well I think James pretty much answered it for all while I was away. He's got my back. But ya it may be a tad close but it still has a few inches till it hits the seat, it looks alot closer cause my super expensive seat cover was hanging off. It is in very nice reach though, but I will probably bend towards the dash a little for personal preference.

I'll keep updating on this thread to keep you guys informed. This is a really nice set up and Paul is super nice and helpful. So if you're gonna do it, I highly recomend his kit!!

Ya with spring finally arriving I'll be making a trip across town and buying one too. Its also got the elec speedo issue. I looked and looked and found articles on how to make the old ones elec but nothing going the other way. However you would think if you can go one way you could go the other

Ya thats what I thought but when I got it the only way would be to change tail housings. Even then I don't know if you would have to make a notch for the clip to hold the drive gear or change the output shaft all together.

But I've been trying to find out what aftermarket speedo I might be able to use the stock sender on it.

On mine the number is printed on the decal with the bar code that is shown in his pictures. My understanding that they started placing the decal with the bar code on them instead of a metal tag. So when the sticker (decal) is destroyed or badly mangled or the metal tag is missing then you have to figure all of the ratios then check the book for the matching ratios to determine which box you have. One thing about the sticker is that it is placed on the top of the transmission away from most of the grease and water.

Here is a link that addresses the speedometer mechanical gear change relocation. However this was mechanical to mechanical.

Here is another link with more information.

Here is another thought on speedometers. Big rig trucks frequently run the speedometer drive from a front wheel. Might be possible to do the same on a car. Also there may be hardware out there to drive a speedometer from the driveshaft. Both of these may be worth investigating.

The speedometer calibration in my P-15 (and in my furd truck) is way off. So on road trips I use my GPS as a speedometer and odometer.

Well Don I'll check the sticker and tag when I go down to work on my car tonight and let ya know. I also thought of the diff speed-o set up as well but I was thinkn more like they did it on VW's on the drivers front wheel. But that seems like alota work and money, so I'm leaning more towards seeing what aftermarket gauges work off the elec speedo sender. Plus if anything else just run this tranny and gauge it off the tach till an mechanical one comes along.
