laynrubber Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Greetinga all, if my profile isn't filled out enough i can fill in the blanks. I joined here because we own a 52 Plymouth Cranbrook. Model P23-2 4dr, body # 18109, paint 4340, trim DBT. Have owned the car for 2 years now and really like it. Along with this car we have a 59 Ford F100 truck and a S code 67 Mustang F/B, GTA (underconstruction) I have a couple questions that i couldn't find in the search machine....i know how it works First.....I thought i had the 218 engine but upon buying the wrong gasket set twice it must be a 230. How can i identify a 230 other than it being 3 inches longer than the 218 ?? Is a Cdn 218/230 different from an American 218/230 ?? Second.....I need a rear brake drum (yes it took some mistakes to figure this all out ). What years interchange with a 52 ?? Third.....will any 51 Desoto parts fit a 52 Plymouth ?? I'm thinking running gear / brakes. Quote

I have a desoto and it's 25 inches long, so if yours is that long of a block then it would interchage. also my brake drums are significantly bigger than all plymouth/dodges I have seen. so I think the desoto drums are out of the question... have you check out Andy Bernabum website? he might have some... Hope this help, or at least stir up someone else that knows about this to anwer... Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Welcome to the forum, Saskatchewan the province to find rust free old cars you are going to enjoy this place. Canada only manufactured one size block for all the displacements for PDCD, it is a 25 inch block for the 218, 228, 251 and 265. The bores and strokes set the engines apart, they were all made in the Windsor Ontario Plant, since 1937............Fred near Winnipeg Quote
oldmopar Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 What numbers are on the engine if is the original engine it should have P23 on the top of the head P for Plymouth which should be a 218 if it starts with D it could be a dodge engine swapped in then most likly a 230 but the gaskets should be the same. here is a link that may help with the engine info http://www.t137.com/registry/help/otherengines/otherengines.php Brake drums for Plymouth from the late 40's to at least mid 50's should interchange and pretty sure dodge same era will work except that the Plymouth has that tit to hold the wheel Not sure about the Desoto parts but I do not think many will swap. I also have a 52 cambridge see below Ed Quote
Young Ed Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 I don't think the dodge drums will work because they have studs instead of lugbolts. Quote
oldmopar Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 I don't think the dodge drums will work because they have studs instead of lugbolts. Thanks Ed,I knew there was some other little detail I forgot Quote
PatS.... Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Welcome to the forum!!! Nice fleet you have there. Soon, us Canadians will be able to take over this place:D I don't think the dodge drums will work because they have studs instead of lugbolts. I THINK, in Canada, they are bolts as well...at least I have never seen studs on that era Mopar. (and I'm never wrong! ) As for brakes from the DeSoto, if you swap the backing plates as well as the rest, they should fit. As far as other mechanical stuff, it all should interchange except the transmission which will be Fluid Drive IF the DeSoto is Canadian as well:) Quote
Young Ed Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 The 51 dodge dad and I put an OD into has wheelstuds. And when I was scouring the junkyard for 16" wheels I found a bunch of dodge ones that didn't have the extra holes for the alignment pins. So they must have had studs for a while. The D24 owners will have to chime in. Quote
