sparkEE_ Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 I just bought a antique car in Los Angeles and need to have it shipped up to Seattle. Does anyone have recent experience with car transporters? I have requested quotes from a couple of the big ones (FedEx, Intercity, Horseless Carriage). Thanks! BTW: It does "stop" and "go", if that factors into your response. Thanks again for any input you may have! Quote
oldmopar Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Can't help with transportation but checked you profile pic. Looks like a good find. Ed Quote
builtfercomfort Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 http://www.transportreviews.com/ Read the reviews - lots of reviews. Typically you give them a deposit, which is the broker's fee, and pay cash on delivery. Except for the occasional 'guy with a rollback' they are all truckers, and hired by brokers - those are what you will see reviewed at that site. A good broker will help you when things go wrong, a bad one will say 'I've got my money you are on your own'. The truckers will happily wreck or do hidden damage your car and lie to you about it (I know!) and so you have to inspect carefully. Quote
mackster Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 I know of some transport link the the hamb website. they are at least three or four and I know of one going towards that side of the world from california. check it out at jalopyjournal dot com Quote
Tony Cipponeri Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Sparkee, Just be careful, I gave a deposit to a broker and waited 3 weeks and they could not give me an answer as to when they were going to pick up my car. I called tem up and told them if they couldn't give me an answer in 3 days I was going with some one else, which I did. It didn't matter that they didn't preform I still lost $200.00 bucks to them. So make sure you have a date before giving a deposit. Tony C Quote
builtfercomfort Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 What He Said, and try to make sure they will take a credit card for the deposit. That way you can dispute the charge if they don't come through. Quote

David Maxwell Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 I'm jealous! Is the new addition the D-24 Convertible or the Pontiac? Quote
sparkEE_ Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 I'm jealous! Is the new addition the D-24 Convertible or the Pontiac? It's a '31 Auburn sedan. ...not a mopar, but the p15 d24 community is one of the best out there for sharing info and supporting the old car hobby. Thanks for all the transportation input! Quote
