mackster Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 I will be the first to say, all of you, come one...you know it loooks better chop. right? is it too smashed up? I know it's a four door, but It looks better IMHO. I'm just trying to start an argument... Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 I like it better not chopped. That said, why is it people want to work in a poorly lit, dark dingy walled garage? You can almost double the amount of light in a garage, without adding any lights by simply picking up a gallon or two of cheap flat white wall paint, and paint the walls white. It also makes it more pleasant to work in the garage with the walls painted white. You don't loose as many parts or tools in a better lighted garage either because you can see better. First time I painted my garage walls white it didn't cost me a dime. All I did was take several partial cans of various shades of white paint I had left over from painting the walls in the house. (some of which were sitting around 5 or 6 years, or more) Mixed them all together and had enough to paint the garage walls. Now, I have white 1/4 inch white pegboard on the walls though. A little paint really makes a difference, even in an old beat up garage. Quote
knighthawk Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 good set of photos, that's pretty much how it's done, can't believe he didn't take the rear glass out !...........and I'd definitly have more light and room ! ........Thanks for link, I'm going to check it out further (one of these days) Quote

This guy did a very good job of chopping this top but I must ask why? Now' date=' I have white 1/4 inch white pegboard on the walls.[/quote']Norm; Nothing personal but only wimps use pegboard:D :D Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 Norm; Nothing personal but only wimps use pegboard:D :D That may be, but at least the wimp can see things when dropped. If you want to hang something heavy, you simply screw it into the wall where the studs are. Otherwise, you can hang all sorts of neat stuff on the wimpy 1/4" pegboard. Besides, all the pegboard was free. It came from an auto parts store that closed down. The white pegboard was used on the shelving of the store. Was 4 x 4 sheets of nice, clean, white pegboard. Have also moved the other signs on the old lower section up to the top peak area, giving more wall space below, all because of the wimpy pegboard. That turned the peak area of the wall into useful space for hanging stuff. All the other walls are the same with nice bright walls now. Quote
Kustom52Mopar Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 I know this is all merely opinion and I dig chops as much as the next rodder but I can't say I've seen a good mordor chop. Specially post cars, yuck. But never the less I can respect good work, well looks like it was done well anyhow. Just my $.02 Quote
Young Ed Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 Here you go guys no white walls or pegboard in site. I do have 5 4' flourescant fixtures in place and its quite bright in there. To the left of the toolbox under the bench are p15 and t112 flatheads and in front of it is my honda lawn mower that I rebuilt. Also you can see 1 of my 2 49 ribbed bumpers. Quote

Sure is fun to push your buttons:cool: Quote

Ed, No offense, but I could not work in those conditions. I'd have to get the stuff off the floor and out of my way so I wouldn't trip over something. For example, you could hang the bumpers on the wall or from the ceiling to get them out of the way. I have five 4 foot double bulb florescent lights in the garage too. It's so bright in there that when the overhead door is open at night, it shines the light out into the driveway about 10 or 15 feet. You could almost double the lighting by just painting the walls white. Don, You don't see any pegs in the pegboard because I couldn't find any square pegs to put into the round holes. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Norm it is a little more organized in there now. I must have just gotten those bumpers because I put them across the rafters in the roof. I probably got sick of tripping over them really quickly Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Ed, What is that hubcap off of hanging on the back wall? Quote
Young Ed Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Early 80s Chrysler I think. It says Chrysler division around the rim of it. Quote
PatS.... Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 I like it. Always thought they were too tall and a nice chop makes em look good, kinda like the new 300. I have to say though he lost me with the skirts and lake pipes. I am impressed with the fact that it isn't abandoned with no top as are many of these type projects. Seemed like it was in very good shape to start with as well. As far as white shops with lots of light, well mine has two coats of cheap white on the walls and so far 22 tubes of flouescent and 8 more on hand to go up and I would like about 10 more after that I would like a light color on the floor as well, but it has had lots of spills and I don't have the motivation to clean it well enough to paint...so it'll have to stay as is. Quote
knighthawk Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 my honest opinion on the chop is; that he chopped it too much and /or made it too square. As far as the original look , it definitly needed some kind of a chop,......re; shop........you never have too many lights! Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Early 80s Chrysler I think. It says Chrysler division around the rim of it. Thanks Ed, thats not what I thought it was. From the picture it sort of looked like a 57 Plymouth hubcap, the cone shaped one. Back in the early 60's when I owned a 52 Dodge I had a set similar to the 57 Plymouth hubcaps of aftermarket caps on my 15" wheels that were cone shaped. Got those from JC Whitney at the time. Would love to have another set of those aftermarket ones, but JC Whitney doesn't list and like them now. Don't want the 57 Plymouth caps because of the design marks around the outside edges, plus I believe they are 14" caps and won't fit my 15" wheels. The aftermarket ones from JC Whitney were smooth around the edges. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Norm there is one of those 57-58 plymouth caps on my wall too. If you look at the very upper left corner you can just see it. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Ed, thats the one I was talking about, just to the upper right of the tool cabinet on the back wall. Thought that was a 57 cap. Am I correct on the 14" size? Is it 15" or 14"? Quote
Young Ed Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Thats the 80s cap. The 57 cap is in the corner of the picture and you can only see a tiny bit of it. I believe its a 14 incher too. Quote
47heaven Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 I don't know...to me it's "catch 22" in this case. Quote
mackster Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 I do agree that when chopped too much it, makes it look funky or fugly, but I like them better than stock. I went with a mild chop on mine and think it's just right. specially because I got the straight b pillars and I did not make it look to batman-clown car (I think) sure, I should of left it alone for the purist and that would have been better, but I needed something to practice on and I like tearing things apart. Not too much putting it back together... In regard to shop lighting: I don't have one so working ona budget outside in the california sun, I have all the light I need plus some! Quote
Normspeed Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Mackster, the car is really coming along. Looking good! You've been busy for sure. You got some nice bumpers with that car. Looks good with the taillights and other trim in place. Gonna name it the Black Widow? On the chopped 4door, I like the way it looks. I didn't visit the website yet, I'm on dialup. Is it a real chop or a photoshop? My garage is well lit, 60'X11', 40' of that is covered, sorta. Has 4-season climate control. I have room for a small workbench that usually is not this neat. The black plastic sheet is for when my climate control is set to "rain". Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Mackster, Your car looks neat with the chopped top. Have you thought about dumping the skirts and putting Cruiser Skirts on it. That would really look neat on that car IMHO. Quote
