Normspeed Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Well, my high class JB Weld repair did not hold up and after a few tries the door latch rotor broke again. So, I'm looking for a 1953-54 Plymouth or Dodge driver side latch assembly. It can be from either a front or a back door, any model except converts or "special coupe" whatever that is. If anyone has one and interested in selling, PM me. Used parts OK. The good new is, it still latches ok 2 out of 3 times. But that third time can be surprising, glad I have seat belts. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Special coupe might be the 2dr hardtops? Quote
JerseyHarold Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 If the part is removable from the lock assembly, can you stick the broken piece onto it, then make a mold and cast it? Quote
Normspeed Posted February 4, 2008 Author Report Posted February 4, 2008 Looks like it's not removable. It rides on a shaft that's riveted at both ends. Also my old part is so worn it would take a lot to make a good mold from it. Quote
Reg Evans Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 I bought a couple of good used latches from Neil Riddle (seaplym on eBay) for my 49 Suburban. Haven't tried them yet but they look good. They weren't listed on the bay. I just emailed him and he had some available. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Well, my high class JB Weld repair did not hold up. Norm; Can you post another picture of the high class instrument you used to measure the curing temperature of your JB weld repair:confused: That may be where the problem is:D Quote

I don't know, Norm...JB Weld never worked for me. I guess I just don't have your touch. Quote
Normspeed Posted February 29, 2008 Author Report Posted February 29, 2008 Well, I picked up a really decent used latch assembly at a fair price on the web. This weekend I'll install it. Seems the driver door latch and striker take all the wear, and that makes sense. I also ebayed a pair of very nice used strikers, way better'n mine. It willl be nice to be sure the door is latching every time I close it. Quote
