Guest G Wellman Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 The change from 4.11 to 3.73 is only about 10%. OD gives a 30% reduction in RPMs. Regarding the kickdown switch, I mounted mine inside the car. It is just a push button that either gets hit by the carb linkage, or of course, you can just push it with your finger. I like the manual control of this since I often kick it down at low speeds and you can do this with flooring the throtte. All things considered, I think the od is the way to go. I love mine in my 48 Bus Coupe, and it bolts in directly. By the way, is the 1950 3.73 a direct replacement of the differential? That is pretty easy to do, but if you have to change the gears out of your differential, that is not so easy. Quote

That is pretty easy to do, but if you have to change the gears out of your differential, that is not so easy. My 3.73 came from, I believe, a 1956 Dodge (Canadian). I had to swap the gears since the number of axle splines are different between the 1940 and the 1956 axles. Phil Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Not trying to be a "wise guy", could not a floor mounted switch be used, something like a headlight dimmer switch, it would be hardly noticeable. Not saying the shifter handle is bad, just wondered about a floor mounted switch, you are cruising, just hit the floor switch, but you would not be able to push in the clutch very easily if you needed to.............Fred Quote

But a floor mounted switch would make split-shifting nearly impossible, unless you have three feet... Pete Quote

James_Douglas Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 Anyone thinking of putting in a BW-OD should give me a call whether you got it from George or not. The is a BIG gotcha in thses things, that by George's own admission he does not check, and it can ruin your whole month. I think these trans can and do work great. But unless your make sure to do certain checks on particular parts you are just playing Russian Roulette. James Quote
