Chester Brzostowski Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Thanks to mostly Tod Fitch and the POC forum I managed to clear up some interesting items surrounding the Master Cyl, electrical system and the universals in the 28/29 Plymouth. FIRST: I am keeping the copper brake lines because they are in pristine shape. Might just be crazy enough to remove them one at a time and with a little paint remover and some copper polish make them bright copper again. (Don’t hold your breath but if I have some free time you never know) SECOND: The master cylinder is apart and the weld was a repair for a hairline crack on the thread flange. Rich T.., a bear to get off indeed. Brought it into work and used the shop here in our manufacturing plant to disassemble and also ultrasonically clean all the pieces. The weld is solid and should be OK but I will use Teflon tap when I put it back together. Great stuff for sealing pipe threads. THIRD: The parts should be in the mail to replace the key internal components. Cylinder tube is in good repair after a slight honing. Actually the rear valve and the piston & cup are in good shape. Probably would work fine. No sign of dry rot on any of the rubber parts but the internals were very, very dirty and filled with gunk.., seems like it has been inoperative for a long time but the internal rubber parts don’t seem to appear any worst for the experience maybe they are just old and better made then today’s stuff. 48 SpD Restoration Update: Got the front end completely back together this weekend. All the mechanicals are done form gas tank to radiator everything has been cleaned, inspected, replaced and painted as needed. New Brakes, lines, cylinders, springs, stocks bearings, floor panels, etc… You name it I did it… Once the front clip is back on she will still look like the car I brought home 2 years ago but everything under that crusty primer is once again in excellent condition. Now we start getting the body ready for paint… Ya.!!!!! Chet... Quote
greg g Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I thought you might be slowin down splittin yer affections (or should I say aflictions) between 2 mistresses, but you seem to have both under control. the P15 engine looks great, have you fired it off yet?? Quote
TodFitch Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 That P-15 motor is looking good. I will have to say that every time I see a small air filter like that I wonder how it affects air flow. But the proof is in the pudding and it looks like you will soon be able to see how it (and everything else) performs. Congratulations on a lot of hard work. Quote

Greg the motor has been running since February of 2005. Check out the link attached: http://www.chetscoins.com/1948p15/20045/Motor_Progress.htm Quote

Tod, Don't fear I have the original oil breather painted and waiting in the wings for the right opportunity. Actually the Edmunds repro has pretty good air flow. PS... I know the motor color is off but I have a 230 D24 waiting in the wings for a complete redo including duel carbs and exhausts along with the proper silver paint job. It might be awhile before that motor finds its way under the hood but I have to keep focused on the future. So much to do , so little time. Chet... Quote
randroid Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Chet, For reasons unknown even to me, I painted my engine "Seafoam Green". So did you, and so have several other members of this forum. Did our parents all drive '61 Chevys is or is it just me who likes that color for that reason? -Randy Quote

My Dad’s first New Car I think the can said Chrysler Blue..?? The picture may be a little light because of the crappy flash on the very expensive Nikon camera I have. I will never buy another Nikon. I never had issues with all the Olympus cameras I have owned over the years. Figured for once I would treat myself to a good camera and I have had it for two years. The internal flash sucked from day one, the very expensive external flash is inconsistent, the nice movable LCD color screen doesn’t always work. A very expensive piece of crap.., but a Nikon. Sorry for the RANT… Chet… Quote

Tod; I first installed two of the small filters and frequently found my plugs fouled due to restricted air flow. Like Chet I double stacked the air filters and my car runs great now. I have not cleaned or replaced the plugs in several thousand miles. Lou Earle turned me on to the stacking trick. Chet; Both of your projects are looking good. Quote
Normspeed Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Hmmm, that paint scheme looks familiar. I've been watching my motor for signs of running too rich because Don had an issue with that, but so far I'm good with the twin paper elements. However, I do have some part numbers written down for the applicable K&N foam filters. I think they would flow more air if needed. Quote
