The rat rod scene to me is like dissonant music. Many people like it, but it makes my ears hurt. But if the truck showed up in my garage, I wouldn't kick it out.

This is exactly the kind of truck I'd put my little 241 hemi in. It looks just rough and molested enough that I wouldn't feel bad about it. Otherwise it might just rot away in some field. It might be the onlt way some of these old Dodges get "saved."

I agree, Rat Rod or not, any interest in using a Pilothouse is a good thing.

Gotta chime in here. I did not care for the Rat Rod Look at first, but it has really grown on me. Something about looking like it was just pulled out of a barn, but it is a real Hot Rod under the skin has got my attention more than once. Plus I have a lot of respect for the amount of work that goes into them.

Like I've said in past posts, the orginal use of the word Rat Rod meant unfinished Hot Rod (1970). I don't warm up to the RR culture to much, but in reality there are more unfinished Hot Rods than finished. So "I give it up" to those who celebrate the Hot Rod in progress! lol :D just my 2 cents

I've been riding and building Harleys for the last 15 years or so - so my 'background' is motorcycles.

Since way before my time there have been 'rat bikes' and I think this is where the term rat rod originated.

The classic definition of a rat bike is one that was ridden hard and put up wet.

The owner/rider was too busy riding to be bothered with polishing chrome and pretty paint jobs but the bike always ran good and was ready to go.

So if you apply that definition to a rat rod you have a truck/car that is good driver, mechanically sound but it's not gonna win any pretty points.

Anyway that's what I was thinkin'

I find it amusing that the owners/builders/drivers/fans of RAT RODS hate that term. Go to the HAMB and tell them you have a rat rod and see what happens. But when these same folks sell there parts/vehicles on the bay the term rat rod is always in the description because it draws more bidding activity.

You're right again Don......:D

I don't hate the term, per se, I just prefer the old definition...

Can I say love/hate, Or do I have to pick a side?

Don..the HAMB sure takes this as an assualt on their cars..but if you look you will see a lot on the pages that falls into that catageory...and the term coming over from the motorcycle group is probably spot on as I do recall the "Rat Class" at the motorcycle shows..

The HAMB as I have said before is a truly self policed network that if you make a deal there..you can trust it far better than the E-bay...have bought and sold there without a problem.
