jimwheeldon Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Anyone out there have a good source for rechroming bumpers? - do they straighten the bumpers if they're tweeked a bit?? Any info on price would be great. I am curious as to the success of people having the pot metal items chromed...as all my handles and trim are pretty well pitted. Thanks-Jim Quote
Young Ed Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Keystone does a great job on bumpers. They only do bumpers and guards. Straightening is usually included. Pot metal is more tricky and lots of places wont touch it. Those that do are spendy. We had good luck with a place in WI. Slow but great work PM for details Quote
kevinanderson Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Sioux Plating in Sioux City Ia. did the bumpers on my '48. the front bumper had to be reshaped and curved on a press. And the rear bumper "wings" were pretty pitted. After it was all said and done, the parts look good and I think they are excellent driver quality. I beleive the front bumper was 300 plus bucks. They have shops in S. D. I beleive. You would have to give them a call. Quote
Don Jordan Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 There are several places I've called in So. Cal. and they must all get together because they all quoted me the same price $250 - $300. That's the good places and the bad and that's just the bumper. One of the problems is the environmental issues. I've heard that some places ship the bumpers to Mexico. There is a lady at Van Nuys Plating who said if I send her a picture of all the stuff I want chromed she would give me a quote. Linda@vannuysplating.com good luck Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Around here, there is a fellow in an area town about an hour's drive away who has a ratty looking old place where he does re-chroming. His price to re plate a P15 bumper is about the $250 to $300 range, as I recall. Had him do the rear one, came out pretty decent. He told me to remove the stainless caps from the bumper bolts, and then he chromed the actual head of the bolt....which worked just fine for me. Just takes a pair of vice grips or two and maybe a screwdriver to remove the cap from the bolt. I need to get him to do the front bumper next......he was too busy at the last part of last year to get to it.....so maybe one of these days.....it will get done. Quote
Olddaddy Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I used Tri-City for my bumpers. I think they are in Elizabethtown TN, they have a web site and did a great job on my stuff. I use Custom Metal Finishing for everything else, 866-489-4089. They did all my pot metal and anything smaller than a bumper. Nice folks, nice job. Quote
