Doug&Deb Posted April 10 Report Posted April 10 I found that the fuel pump has failed so I’m using the electric pump for now. Unfortunately something else has popped up. I drove the car for about 15 miles and it ran great. After stopping for gas it started acting up again mostly at low and mid throttle. This is different from the fuel shut off I was experiencing and it wasn’t the usual hot restart problem. This feels like an ignition stumble. I’m not sure where to start with diagnosis. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 10 Report Posted April 10 ensure you are not over pressuring the needle and seat with the constant use of the electric fuel pump over filling the bowl and dumping fuel into the manifold.....not all these pumps are low pressure like stated on the box. In other words..be sure the fix is not the cause before moving onto another probable issue. Quote
Doug&Deb Posted April 10 Author Report Posted April 10 I don’t think that’s the case. This is a low pressure pump and I’ve used it before as my primary pump but I’ll check anyway. I’m suspecting the coil since it started after I had been driving awhile. Unfortunately like a dummy I forgot to check if it was hot when I got home. Quote
desoto1939 Posted April 10 Report Posted April 10 doug: I had to rebuild my original dizzy for my 39 Desoto over the winter. After taking it out of the car and putting in on a bench i discovered that I could move the came by pulling on it and then the points would open to the correct gap of 20. I had to install new bushings. check for any movement in the bushing and the side to side movement of the dizzy shaft. Just a thought. Rich Hartung Quote
