jwhite3242 Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 Looking for help finding air cleaner elements for my 1947 Plymouth with an Offenhauser split intake. I have had no luck finding these. Any help is greatly appreciated. The element measures 6-1/4” outside dia 5-1/8” inside dia 2-1/2 tall. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 having searched a tad for one of these filters myself long back, I found many of those air filters are sold with top and bottom plates for aftermarket and rarely seen sold by just the air filter itself. There are filters at 6" and 6 3/8 and even 6 1/2 and are from cheap element to washable units. Search on e-bay if you wish by dimension. as the shell will cover the element, odds are 6" will likely suit your bases. Measure to be sure.... Quote
Loren Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 I believe those are “Hellings & Stellings” air cleaners. They are pretty close to period correct. If you check out some magazines from the later 1950s you’ll see ads for them. Quote
Loren Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 I just googled Hellings & Stellings, they made lots of air cleaners but I couldn’t find the ones in your photo. I recall see them in a magazine ad when they were still in business. The ones you will find now are reproductions. The Early Ford Store of San Dimas has the “Bell shaped” ones which are kind of cool and would work ( cheap at $35 ). Quote
Sniper Posted August 31 Report Posted August 31 Wix filter look up by dimension https://www.wixfilters.com/en-us/filter-finder.html Not finding an exact match, but maybe this will work? https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Replacement-Paper-Filter-for-Shotgun-Scoop-6-38-x-2-38-Inch,34083.html 1 Quote
jwhite3242 Posted September 1 Author Report Posted September 1 Good morning everyone thank you for your support. I decided to order this and see if it will fit. All the responses are much appreciated. Happy Labor Day! https://www.summitracing.com/parts/MRG-1485A Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 1 Report Posted September 1 you may find you quickly encroaching upon the free space needed for air flow beneath the bell and into the filter itself. Quote
jwhite3242 Posted September 1 Author Report Posted September 1 Just ordered the Speedway ones Sniper recommended. Will let everyone know what works. Thank you everyone Quote
