37silverstreak Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 Hi everyone, Has anyone here ever replaced a rear transmission seal? The seal on my '49 Plymouth is leaking and I was wondering how much of a pain it would be for me to replace it. Can it be done without removing the transmission? I have the new seal and would like to try and replace it myself, but if I have to pull the transmission, I'll wait until I have the clutch replaced by my local mechanic. Thanks for any input! Quote
Solution plymouthcranbrook Posted July 3 Solution Report Posted July 3 As my ability to crawl under cars is more limited than it once was. That said I had my 52 manual trans rear seal replaced at a local shop and the cost was under $200. Just drop the drive shaft and undo the rear bolt. And replace the old seal I suspect. Quote
Sniper Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 I would suggest having a speedi sleeve on hand. SKF 99156 should be the right one. Quote
