37silverstreak Posted July 3, 2024 Report Posted July 3, 2024 Hi everyone, Has anyone here ever replaced a rear transmission seal? The seal on my '49 Plymouth is leaking and I was wondering how much of a pain it would be for me to replace it. Can it be done without removing the transmission? I have the new seal and would like to try and replace it myself, but if I have to pull the transmission, I'll wait until I have the clutch replaced by my local mechanic. Thanks for any input! Quote
Solution plymouthcranbrook Posted July 3, 2024 Solution Report Posted July 3, 2024 As my ability to crawl under cars is more limited than it once was. That said I had my 52 manual trans rear seal replaced at a local shop and the cost was under $200. Just drop the drive shaft and undo the rear bolt. And replace the old seal I suspect. Quote
Sniper Posted July 3, 2024 Report Posted July 3, 2024 I would suggest having a speedi sleeve on hand. SKF 99156 should be the right one. Quote
