Guest restoringmy49 Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 Hey everybody, This is my first post and I need some help on finding some parts book or something on this car. We are working on a 48 plymouth coupe. The car is my grandfathers and I'm trying to help him out. Me and my dad have worked on a few old cars before and we have 3 more to go know plus my grandfathers coupe. I have never had this much trouble finding anything for a car before. As far as part books go. We need a front spring (drivers side is weak) so we might just like to buy 2 of them. And I need a front inner fender (driver's side to I think) I'll find out what all he nedds and maybe you guys can help my out. I'll try to post some pics of it soon. Thanks Scott Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 good place to start is the home page here section 18 is a list of parts and some source internet search for year of car and word Plymouth always returns a few venders.. Suggest a parts car, check local craig list E-bay is always full of these parts..some are deals, some are junk..some are just out of range but hey..avialbility and deep pockets sometimes are a winning combination in parts quest.. You will find though it is not like the Ford and Chevy sites..the heads that bang at Mopar does not allow rreproductions..very few things get licensed by them ..they killing their own heritage but it is their choice...you will find the Mopar one of the most fulfilling projects when complete just on count of this alone..you will be working, rebuilding and plat out making a few things along the way...anyone can bolt a bunch of available loose parts together...that is what makes them Chevy and Ford owners...now before I catch hell on that statement..this is a Mopar site...lol Quote
Young Ed Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 Scott post your location. I've got a 4dr going the way of the parts car. Quote
Guest restoringmy49 Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 If any of you guys know or have 2 front springs and a inner front fender. I believe he needs the pass. side but I'll find out. If I can find a good deal on them I would go ahead and buy both of them. I've looked on ebay but I'll keep on looking. I myself am building a 51 ford F1 truck. And I can find parts if I need them or a parts book, unlike this coupe I quess it's going to be alittle more harder to find parts we need. I'll get some pics of it up in the next couple of days. The car is in pretty good shape really. It has the original running gear in it, and believe it or not everything works on the car. It is a special deluxe coupe. I quess it has every option that you could get in 48. I do had a set of original wheels and caps and I believe he might sell the sun visor that was on the car. He took it off b/c when he was setting at a red light he couldn't see the light b/c of it. So he took it off the 2nd day he got the car. Thanks for the help. I know I will have plenty of question for you guys. Thanks Scott Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 I am pretty sure if you ask the passenger lower side had been left off..these are removed for valve adjust and other maintenance. Spring should be bought in pair..should be replaced if used..side for side...always get a matching set else you may have on the other side what you trying to fix now..as for the visor..it is a love/hate relationship there..you can get a reproduction stop light viewer for about 25.00 make a good Christmas gift... BobT-47P15 Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 There are both original and reprint Repair Manuals and Parts Manuals on ebay. As you probably know, pretty much every part from a 46 and a 47 will fit on a 48, assuming they are the same body style. Some things, even the body style does not matter. Did you also check the cars and parts for sale section of this forum?? I think Chet of this forum did an online PDF format parts manual.....but I can't remember just where to find it. The Motors Manual and the Chilton's have mechanical info in their older editions. Just buying a Motors from ebay....about $25 or so cost. Quote
hkestes41 Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 Try these out for a place to start. Link Bob mentioned above. Guest restoringmy49 Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Bill, Thanks for getting back with me. I will get with my dad and let him know what you have. I'm sure he will be interested in the parts. We are having a heck of a time in trying to find parts for this car. I'll get back with you here or I will PM you to let you know. Thanks Again, Scott Quote
Young Ed Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Scott just keep hanging around here. There are parts around if you know where to look. There isn't anything I wanted for my 48 that I haven't found yet. Quote
Tony Cipponeri Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Scott, You might try to find someone in your area that can re arc your springs they will be able to add a leaf if needed. Tony C Quote
Guest restoringmy49 Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Do they make inner fenders for the 48 plymouth, I have found some new parts but nothing like that. We have talked to a couple of people that have plymouth's at the car show's but no luck as far as extra stuff. I just hate to see something like a inner fender holding our build up. My grandfather is like a kid again in a way. He's wants everything done right now, but we have to keep telling him winter is just getting started and we have plenty of days to work on the car. But I know how he feel's b/c I was the same way when I first got my truck. Thanks for all of your help, it is ashame they don't make the parts for these car's like they do ford or chevy. I can't wait to see the old coupe going down the road this summer. Thanks Scott Quote
Young Ed Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 You will need to find a parts car for that piece. Shouldn't be too hard they made over a million p15s. Quote
