I rebuilt  my carb and fuel.pump excellent  all good . I accidentally tried to start car imwas in gear and the starter engaged got stuck and the car leaped forward it jumped forward in gear clutch suddenly would not disengage its never had issue worked smoothly since  new  6 months ago. . I went to depress clutch  and it was frozen up. So I manually got under the hood and got it in neutral and now I depress clutch it  won't  disengage to shift. Clutch feels good no change in feel of de I ressing pedal like always

Any ideas or just jump out of adjustment?

I don't see how a clutch would get stuck after trying to start the car in gear... Why did you need to get under the hood to switch the car in neutral? Wasn't the gear shift lever disengaging from the cabin no more? How do you know that the clutch is stuck? Did you verify that the disk is physically not disengaging, under the flywheel cover?

Are you able to shift the transmission through all gears with the engine turned off?

Sometimes if there's enough humidity and the clutch sits long enough the pressure plate rusts to the disc and they kind of glue together. Ran into that issue when we went to go pick up the mutant nuclear Super Bee in San Antone some years ago.

That is true, but I suspect that you would have somewhat different symptoms when that happens. In this case, according to the TS, the car was simply started in gear and is no longer shifting, and he had to get under the hood to shift it into neutral, for some reason. Like when your shifting linkage is out of adjustment or broken ?

Been there with the clutch plate sticking to the flywheel. Start the car in neutral and let it warm up a bit so it starts easy. You won’t be able to shift it into gear without grinding. Stop the engine and apply the hand brake and have the brakes applied. Put the transmission in 3rd gear, clutch pedal to the floor and try to start the car. That should release the clutch plate from the flywheel. You should be able to shift into any gear, without any grinding. Normal stop and go driving will break in the clutch and flywheel surfaces. That’s assuming the clutch and shift linkage is properly adjusted. Rick D.

Wouldn't that potentially move the car forward at a very abrupt fashion? Just like what happened before?

How about we just take the clutch cover off and pry it loose with a knife or something like that? ?
