Spring 2007 POC meet in California

Regarding the modified/unmodified, just look at the judging standards (downloadable from the National POC web site) and you can get a feel on how that would affect your car.

For myself, I keep my car pretty stock but even so I am planning on taking the other way out: I am not putting my car in as one to be judged. It will simply be there for people to admire (or not) as they see fit.

For me the reason to have a car is to drive it and the part I am looking forward to is the tour down from the Bay Area. Showing and having it judged is fine for a lot of people but it is just not my cup of tea.

Dont get me wrong. I am sure this will be a fun event for all participants. I was just curious as to where the line was drawn. Were I in the area at the time of the show I would make plans to attend. As several of you have mentioned I also am not looking for trophies or awards as my biggest award is driving and enjoying my car.

I do understand and respect the juding rules of the POC. It is good that there is a segment of the car hobby that is committed to originality. I would like to think that that segment also has respect for cars that appear original but have upgrades for safety and drivability. But for the most part that is wishful thinking.

Don. Here are the judging standards from the POC web site. All I know is when I was going to join the POC so I could join the Golden State Region I was told by the National Membership Chairman "If it's not stock, We don't want you". So I'm not a member. This was after I had changed my broken front seat.

Dennis, Boy do we in the GSR understand how you feel about the National's statements of the fact that if it isn't stock they don't want you. But, we do!!! And when you look at it all, you will see that the actuall events and tours are put on by the locals. The National is just a managment group and rely on the locals to provide a reason for the membership to enjoy their vehicles. All we really get from National is the rules that the club runs by and the best magazine I have ever seen from all the clubs that I belong to. SO...since the GSR is receptive to modifieds, and most of our cars are modified in some way, some with big mods and some with very small mods, all that really matters is, are we willing to accept you and your car? That was one very, very BIG question we had back in '02 when we started this regional. And our answer was YES!!!! we want your modified cars and to devil with what the National rules say... !!! We also love the totally stock cars but, like Tod pointed out, driving is the real enjoyment in ownership. So, to everyone that still questions the modified cars acceptance... WE DO ACCEPT THEM AND LOVE THEM JUST AS WE DO OUR TOTALLY STOCK CARS, PERIOD!!!

I have taken my coupe to POC nationals, it has radials, overdrive and non stock upholstery. I go to all the events during the meet but I don't get it judged. I have seen cars with dual carbs and headers at POC meets and the drivers have fun but just display their cars during the judging. When I get my dual carbs and dual exhuast on my coupe it will still be going to the POC meets and I'll still enjoy driving it.
