GTfastbacker Posted January 6, 2024 Report Posted January 6, 2024 Gentlemen, what’s this part for? It smokes from time to time burned oil. Thank you Joe Quote
joecoozie Posted January 6, 2024 Report Posted January 6, 2024 That is the Sisson choke for the carb. It looks like it is disconnected (electrically) 1 1 Quote
DonaldSmith Posted January 6, 2024 Report Posted January 6, 2024 Joecoozie beat me to it. It's the Sisson automatic choke. A wire from the starter solenoid is live only while the starter is running. This partially closes the choke plate. A bimetallic strip in the Sisson also partially closes the choke plate. The heat from the manifold opens the choke. 1 Quote

RobertKB Posted January 7, 2024 Report Posted January 7, 2024 A factory shop manual for any car with the Sissons choke will also explain how to set it properly. I have two cars with Sissons chokes and the chokes work perfectly if set as directed. 1 Quote
