Fluid drive upshift question

I've been enjoying the fall weather cruising in the 47 Saratoga. Been using it as the daily driver and sorting out little bugs. Everything works smoothly and I have been impressed with how it holds its own in traffic. However occasionally when I lift my foot and wait for the famous clicky clack it fails to upshift and at times when I come to a stop it fails to downshift. The next time it works as it should.

I understand the parts the solenoid and the governor play. It appears that the governor isn't doing its part on a regular basis. I have the idle slowed down as far as I can and keep it running. Is there something else that would make the governor sluggish or sticking. Thanks.

Clean the governor points carefully.

No files or sandpaper. Electrical contact cleaner and a lint free cloth.

No fuse (blown) the trans will always imediately upshift and never downshift till complete dead stop.

Also, make sure your idle speed is adjusted to proper spec and your throttle linkage is working freely. Ran into a similar issue recently while driving my 47 DeSoto . Found the screw to be loose where the linkage arm goes onto the throttle shaft .  Just sharing my issue . BTW I rewired my car in 2021 due to many wires under the hood to have cloth covering worn off . The more I looked the more I couldn’t believe anything worked at all.

Bad wiring was the cause of my problems with my Gyromatic. A new transmission harness from YNZ Wiring fixed it. Idle speed should be between 450-500. 475 works good for me. Again the troubleshooting manual will walk you through the steps to diagnose the problem. Be aware that you won’t get the trans to up shift while on jack stands which is one of the steps in the manual.
