harmony Posted March 6, 2023 Report Posted March 6, 2023 (edited) "A" in the picture is the switch. On the far side there will be a wire coming off the short brass arm. That wire goes to the drivers side inner fender to the Transmission Relay swith to the terminal marked TH. It's right beside the Regulator. At least that's where it's mounted on my '48 Windsor. "B" is the arm on the throttle assembly that activates the switch when you put the pedal to the floor. Edited March 6, 2023 by harmony Quote

And, I would certainly be interested in whatever inventive solution you came up with to get around a non-operative switch. Thanks Mike Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted March 6, 2023 Report Posted March 6, 2023 Your 1942 Chrysler has the M-4 Vacumatic transmission if you have the three wire kick down relay up on the firewall. Very late 1942 production Chrysler and DeSoto cars came with the new M-5 transmission as used in the 1946-48 cars along with the five terminal relay located on the left inner fender panel.? 1 Quote
normanpitkin Posted March 6, 2023 Report Posted March 6, 2023 When i fitted triple carbs to my 41 ,there was no longer sufficient vacuum to operate the kick down so i had an electric button switch fitted under the dash ,works perfectly. Quote
harmony Posted March 7, 2023 Report Posted March 7, 2023 Strickleyballroom, the pictures below show how I solved my kickdown issues. Sorry for giving you a kink in the neck. I've never been able to figure out how to out smart this forum when it comes to loading some pictures. Anyways I tried everything and made sure all my linkage was accurate ( not bent or twisted) and in the proper place, but when I put the pedal to the medal, the arm on the throttle lever would just barely touch the edge of the kickdown switch plunger. So I carved a piece of UHMW plastic on my bandsaw and wedged it in over the protruding arm and it's been working flawlessly ever since. I keep saying that I'll reproduce it with a black piece of UHMW so it doesn't appear so noticeable. But then again "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" Mind you, since I took these pictures a couple years ago, I have rounded off the corners and got a bit of greasy, oily, fingers on it and I think maybe the heat of the engine has softened the white glare a bit, so it's not quite as bright these days. As for your other comment about the "TH" on my trans relay, I'm guessing by now you've read dodgeb4ya comment which should explain why you don't have the same trans relay as I do. Quote

harmony Posted March 8, 2023 Report Posted March 8, 2023 Plus there is a brass contact in there that could get tarnished over time. So it's best to clean it with some brake cleaner and scotchbrite. That thin brass strip can get bent ever so little, so just make sure it's making contact. Easy to understand once you see it. Quote
