MarcDeSoto Posted February 3, 2023 Report Posted February 3, 2023 40 years ago at the Big Three San Diego auto swap meet, I think I got rooked. The part no. on the cardboard package said 78072 for a pair of valve cover gaskets, which is close the the part number for my car. I thought they would fit my 48 Desoto, but they are too tall. I just found that recently that they don't fit. The part no. on the gaskets is 40814, so the package and the gaskets don't match. Does anyone with a good set of Parts Lists know what year and make of car these gaskets would fit? Quote
Sniper Posted February 3, 2023 Report Posted February 3, 2023 None of those numbers show up in my parts book, from 1933-1954, for any mopar engine. But it's a pass car manual. Might be for a truck engine? https://www.ebay.com/itm/294970305624 1 Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted February 3, 2023 Author Report Posted February 3, 2023 Wow Sniper, you found it. 30-34 Chrysler and 29-30 Dodge truck! Quote
Sam Buchanan Posted February 3, 2023 Report Posted February 3, 2023 If the only problem is they're too tall you could cut a section out of the vertical legs (use a diagonal cut) then glue them to the covers. A little extra sealer in the joint should make it good. Or buy another set. 1 Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted February 3, 2023 Author Report Posted February 3, 2023 (edited) Did anyone notice that the package actually has the correct part number on it, but it's crossed out? Actually, I bought the correct set so I'm good. Looking for an exhaust manifold heat control cover now. Edited February 3, 2023 by MarcDeSoto Quote
