rrunnertexas Posted January 10, 2023 Report Posted January 10, 2023 Having just pulled this out of the car today, the emergency brake drum looks very interesting. I'm assuming that it is not supposed to be bowed or have the taper that it does, correct? Are replacement drums hard to find for this year? Any ideas where to find one? Don't laugh to hard! Quote
TodFitch Posted January 10, 2023 Report Posted January 10, 2023 No, it should just be a smooth cylinder. That one must have had a lot of metal to metal rubbing to get that bad. I guess it could be spray welded up then machined to size but it will probably be cheaper to find a replacement from somewhere. Quote
rrunnertexas Posted January 10, 2023 Author Report Posted January 10, 2023 The band on it now looks to have been replaced years ago as the brass rivets look clean. I'm sure the original band must have caused all the wear and damage. The brake is working, but with that much taper, it surely is not as effective as it could be. Ebay did not reveal any new drums so, finding one might be a challenge. There was one for mid 40's cars, but kinda pricey at $300. Quote
keithb7 Posted January 10, 2023 Report Posted January 10, 2023 (edited) This one fits my '38 Plym which shares its transmission with your 35 Plym. Yet I am not 100% sure this park brake drum will fit your '35 plym. Maybe call them and ask? Edited January 10, 2023 by keithb7 Quote
JohnS48plm Posted January 11, 2023 Report Posted January 11, 2023 I'd call Moore's auto part in Rapid City SD and see if they have a good used drum. Quote
rrunnertexas Posted January 11, 2023 Author Report Posted January 11, 2023 John - thank you for that parts source! Found their web site and submitted a parts request. Fingers crossed. Quote
