Doug&Deb
I’m at the point of checking main bearing clearance and installing the crank for keeps. The question concerns the rear main seal. I have the neoprene seal. Do I install the block portion of the seal before installing the crank or after? I’m going to be asking many questions throughout this process so please bear with me. LeRoy
Before, there's a felt wiper that goes on there too. Don't forget it, ask me how I know.
DJ194950
Follow the seal makers instructions 100%. They have tested the best methods. Ask here for any clarification of those instructions as needed for sure! Hopefully they were not written in China or Mexico. ? DJ
Happy 46R
I have no hands on for you but there is a you tube film that has some good visuals oh how a seal was installed on an engine. I shows you how the seal material looked on the engine but unfortunately doesn't continue with any instructions on how the new seal was installed. Takes about 15 seconds to watch. Good luck! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCLk86PJGqA
andyd
Also there are 2 types of side seals, similar to each other but different in shape.......make sure to install whichever is correct for your engine.......Leroy mentions a felt wiper.......my understanding was that there are 3 types of seals........the rope seal & 2 different style of neoprene seal.............just make sure you use the correct one for your engine............andyd
