Doug&Deb Posted October 16, 2022 Report Posted October 16, 2022 Nine hours of mountain driving in the Coronet. If that didn’t kill it nothing will lol. Aside from a disc brake conversion it’s as engineered by Mopar. I drive it most of the year but my wife is the one to convince me to take longer trips. I’m pleased and pleasantly surprised by how well it works. 5 Quote
Roadtractor Posted October 17, 2022 Report Posted October 17, 2022 They were built to drive! I put 1,800 miles on my '40 in two days and then did it again on the return trip. The best two reversible upgrades you can do are front disc brakes and an overdrive transmission. Quote
Doug&Deb Posted October 17, 2022 Author Report Posted October 17, 2022 Disc brakes yes, overdrive no. I have the M6 trans so I keep my speed down. I daily drive mine until they start salting the roads. Quote
greg g Posted October 18, 2022 Report Posted October 18, 2022 Just did 800 plus miles in my 46. Mountains in Vt. and NH, not a problem up or down. Brakes not an issue. With the OD, mileage averaged just over 20. Only fault, broken rivet on tail pipe hanger. No oil usage. Gotta run the ethanol regular out of it to make room for a non ethical tank refill to pass the winter in the garage. Another trouble free driving season in the books. Quote
Happy 46R Posted October 18, 2022 Report Posted October 18, 2022 I did a 1200 mile round trip mid September in hot conditions without any problems. No overdrive or disc conversion but kept it at 50 to 55 mph and had a great time. Nothing wrong with original in my books but completely understand why some want the upgrades for their rides. Congratulations on your mountain tour. Quote
Harvie Posted October 24, 2022 Report Posted October 24, 2022 Hello Doug&Deb - glad to hear that you are getting out on the road! I try to drive my 1947 Chrysler NY every day that there isn't snow on the ground. Living in Winnipeg that makes for a lot of time in the garage. What disc brake conversion kit did you use? Quote
Doug&Deb Posted October 25, 2022 Author Report Posted October 25, 2022 Scarebird. I’m very happy with it. Quote
