MarcDeSoto Posted February 16, 2022 Report Posted February 16, 2022 (edited) I found that two of the brake shoes in my kit are slightly different than the other six shoes. Does this make any difference? I'm thinking that since the rear shoes on the rear axle were different, maybe the two shoes with the short triangle should go on the rear? Also there is a difference between the old push rods and the new push rods. What do you think? Short triangle Edited February 16, 2022 by MarcDeSoto Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted February 16, 2022 Author Report Posted February 16, 2022 After looking at all of my brake shoes, I found that three of my shoes have that short triangle while the other five have the long triangle. Is this just a different style of shoe that makes no difference or not? Quote
greg g Posted February 16, 2022 Report Posted February 16, 2022 (edited) I believe the two with the shorter friction material go in front of the front axles. This memory is over nearly 20 years old and may not be reliable Edited February 16, 2022 by greg g Quote
desoto1939 Posted February 16, 2022 Report Posted February 16, 2022 Marc: when replacing brake lining and or shoes with bonded lining on the fron or rear both side should be of the smae manufacturer and of the same brake composition. By combining two different brake lining from two different manufactures can lead to pulling and brake drag becasue of the lining difference and the makeup of th elining so alwasy replace in sets, both fron and or both rear set which include the front shoe and the back shoe for each drum. So you could have Grizzly on the rear two wheels and MoPar set on the two fronts so you will have equal brake shoe on the front and the rear for brake lining material. By the book and i mean Wagner, EIS, Thermoid the front drums both have long lining used on the front and the rear of the drums. The rear since they have the single wheel cylinder and have step down pistons of two different sizes then the rear shoes have the following setup. Front shoe on the rear is long the rear shoe on the rear is the short shoe and the short lining is at the bottom of the metal brake shoe. I have this documented in my 36-42 Desoto Master Parts Rich Hartung 1 Quote
