Greg W 41 Dodge WC Posted January 14, 2022 Report Posted January 14, 2022 The rims I bought from http://www.wheelvintiques.com for my 41 didn’t include spring clips for the hub caps. The spring clips are available on eBay. I used a 5/8” tall threaded spacer to bring them up to the correct height. 1 Quote

Must of been a little tricky figuring out getting those standoffs in just the right positions before welding? Do the oem hubcaps fit well and go on and off easily? I'd like to do the same on my 39 Plymouth's rear rims which I had custom width wheels made by the Wheelsmith. I'm now running a smoothie cap which looks OK, but would be better if I could use my oem Plymouth hubcaps. 1 Quote
LMBoise Posted January 15, 2022 Report Posted January 15, 2022 That is great. I need to something similar for my ‘48 Pilothouse. Good comment above, how, did you get the alignment and depth so perfect? Quote
Greg W 41 Dodge WC Posted January 15, 2022 Author Report Posted January 15, 2022 I was lucky to have an original rim, complete with springs, for my spare tire. From it I was able to determine that I needed a finish height that was approximately 1/2” above the top surface of the rim (this determined the 5/8 spacer) and a pattern that gave me an approximately 7” diameter. I bought a $3 7”embroidery hoop and then spaced the springs evenly as a jig. Once they are welded you can flex them to get a fit that is as tight as the original. Quote
1952b3bcolorado Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 Hello. What size are these wheels that you bought from Wheel Vintiques? Quote
Greg W 41 Dodge WC Posted March 18, 2022 Author Report Posted March 18, 2022 Part# 14-6612334: 16” x 6”, 5 x 4.50/4.75” bolt circle, 3.75” backspace. They come with hubcap “bumps.” These should be ground flat to get the best fit when using spring clips. Quote
1952b3bcolorado Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 Thank you very much. I think I'm going to go with 15x6. https://www.wheelvintiques.com/all-wheels/o-e-chevy-ford-bare-finish.html15x6 | 5x4.5" bolt | 3.75" backspace After some measuring I think they are going to work just fine. Mendey Posted October 13, 2022 Report Posted October 13, 2022 Just wondering if Colorado went through with the wheels, and if it worked out. I'm looking at doing the same thing. 15x6/5x4.5. If so, what clips did you youse. I have 7.5" cherry caps that need clips. an I got no wheels. going on a 54 c1b6 truck. Quote
JBNeal Posted October 15, 2022 Report Posted October 15, 2022 (edited) Those wheels linked will not work with spring clips...they are used on bottle cap style hubcaps or full wheel covers. Edited October 16, 2022 by JBNeal added link Quote
Greg W 41 Dodge WC Posted October 15, 2022 Author Report Posted October 15, 2022 You are correct JB. At the top of this string you can see how I modified them to use spring clips. Quote
B1B Keven Posted October 16, 2022 Report Posted October 16, 2022 Seems to me I used the clips for a VW bug. Quote
