Does anyone know the material used for the tie rod (SAE/ASTM/AISI)?

The reason I am asking because the one on my truck has a slight bend. I have if off currently while rebuilding the front end and I am going to straighten maybe tomorrow. I can not straighten some materials with high Chrome as they have memory and may break on the press such as 4140 Chrome Moly. I am working on a WH tie rod. If anyone has straighten in the past, recommendations are welcome. Thanks, Kevin

Ok— thanks guys, I started second guessing. I can get it straight if it’s soft carbon steel. We have a nice 100t press at work that I can baby it with adjustable blocks for centering the bend. I just didn’t want to shatter it( have done in the past on hardened high chrome material).

The cross bar (wheel to wheel) is just a hollow tube so be very careful with that 100 ton press!  You'd be better off using a large vice, a couple of 2x4s to straighten it.
