I have a 54 block, 237ci. I have a couple of ???

Are the manifolds (intake and exhaust) compatible with the 23" blocks? I am hoping to eventually upgrade to dual exhaust and have a modified intake.

Is the mechanical fuel pump the same as the shorter block? I am having trouble at NAPA finding a rebuild kit or rebuilt pump.

Here is the NAPA pump I purchased for my Canadian 25 in. block (D24). NAPA #588. This pump has the glass bowl and was sourced from the NAPA Montreal warehouse ($94.69 + tax = $107.95 Cdn.) on Aug. 16, 2006.

100 bucks seems like a lot. Both my pumps were rebuilt by me with kits from antique auto cellar. I think the kits are 20-25 each.

The manifolds are not interchangable between the short Plymouth, Dodge engine and the long Desoto, Crashler engines.

I bought the pictured fuel pump to install on a short Plymouth flathead 6 engine. But I instead installed it on a long Desoto flathead 6 engine. Cost was around fifty bucks at the local Car Quest.

Hi Ed, thought you mentioned us Canucks were the "thrifty type", hehehehe. The same pump could have been bought in the USA for 65 to 75 dollars, when Phill bought the pump the US dollar was worth about 20 cents more than the Canuck buck, so it would have been about $80 US for the pump.

I would do as you did, buy rebuild kits, in fact I have a real good pump here as a spare, not sure if it needs a kit though, how can I tell if it needs a kit.............Fred

I did say that. I don't recall saying I wasn't that way too though:D

I did enjoy rebuilding the pumps for my cars and would have done it just for the experience unless the price difference was nil. Like yesterday for example-with the discount at napa the good air cleaner was 8 cents more then the cheap one. Hmmmmm

Well golly, you got me there, I kind of thought that also. On the serious side, if it appears to pump well, should any gaskets in it be changed............Fred

Fred;

If it is a spare and was working when removed I would leave well enough alone. If you want to put it back into service then "kit" it.

Fred if you live an in area that uses ethanol then you won't get much use out of an old one. Probably still good enough for a spare. Does CA use ethanol gas or is that just a USA thing?
