fargorat Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 getting ready to install rear 53 fenders to boxsides and was just wondering if there is anything that goes between them. is it just metal on metal or what did you guys use, when i took them apart years ago i didnt remember anything except the the little duct like sealant that was in the grooves of the boxside. couldnt find any threads on this Quote
billrigsby Posted August 24, 2021 Report Posted August 24, 2021 At least on Dodge's, the parts book calls out a 'SHIELD, Body to Rear Fender'. I would not go metal to metal. Quote

fargorat Posted August 25, 2021 Author Report Posted August 25, 2021 Billrigsby, thanks for the info. It pretty well confirms there was something there. Didn't think it would be metal on metal. Maybe some type of gasket material would do the trick B1bkeven, thanks for the link. Just ordered it. Quote
billrigsby Posted August 25, 2021 Report Posted August 25, 2021 Yes this is got me curious, tomorrow when I get home I'm going to go through all my samples and see if I have anything. Where I tore my truck down I kept a sample of every little bit and piece that was this kind of item. Any kind of filler, gasket material, rivet, interior door panel material, seat material, you get the picture everything that was salvageable I saved or cut a sample of. It was 30 some years ago and I don't really remember there being anything there but I'm still going to look just to satisfy my own curiosity. Quote
JBNeal Posted August 25, 2021 Report Posted August 25, 2021 B-4 rear fender filler, not the same as B-1, B-2, or B-3: additional information - Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Foam 1 Quote
fargorat Posted August 25, 2021 Author Report Posted August 25, 2021 jbneal yes if there was a foam type material installed in these trucks it makes sense that after almost 70 years it could have worn away. i had 2 other boxes to choose from also and when i removed the fenders there was nothing left to go by. the only remaining material was the rubbery type material where there would be gaps when fender is installed. hope pic shows up. i kept these pieces for future reference 20210825_060312.heic Quote
ggdad1951 Posted August 25, 2021 Report Posted August 25, 2021 Whatever you do DON'T use the lollipop welting....drives me nutty....no way is that correct. For my build I used body caulk between the metal, but with the square fenders you do have the gap to fill. 2 Quote
billrigsby Posted August 25, 2021 Report Posted August 25, 2021 I did not think I had anything in my sample box, just did not remember anything being there. I do have the samples of the running board to rear fender filler gaskets. Quote
