MarcDeSoto Posted December 22, 2020 Report Posted December 22, 2020 I found a couple of excellent diagrams in two parts lists that are not included in other parts books. Why I don't know. Now I know why I buy Parts Lists for other makes than my 48 DeSoto business coupe. These pics are not in my S11-DeSoto Parts List. First, in my P-15 Plymouth Parts List is an excellent diagram showing the routing harness of the ignition, starting, and generator circuits. This diagram is not found in my 46-48 DeSoto, 46-48 Dodge, or 49 Dodge Parts Lists. Second, is an excellent pic of the cowl grommets that shows what harness or cable goes through what grommet on the cowl or firewall. This is only found in the 46-48 Dodge Parts List. My question to those of you who might know is "What grommet hole do the headlight wires go through? 1 Quote
Andydodge Posted December 22, 2020 Report Posted December 22, 2020 Thats a very interesting diagram........never seen that in any book ...............tho' no mention of the parking brake cable...............andyd Quote
sidevalvepete Posted December 22, 2020 Report Posted December 22, 2020 Think it is part of what they call chassis wiring. Headlight cables split out well after the harness comes through the cowl. Interesting pictures though. Is D24 I see but wouldn't mind betting it is consistent with lots of other models and years. All those parts look the same as my 1938 D9 and I have learnt through this forum that mother mopar was smart at using good design through many years. If it serves the same function why change it? 61spit Posted December 22, 2020 Report Posted December 22, 2020 Andy, I think it is the center one of the lower row. It says Hand Brake Cable. I believe that would be the parking brake. Also, looks like you need to get that sticking period key on your keyboard fixed. Quote
desoto1939 Posted December 22, 2020 Report Posted December 22, 2020 Marc: On my 39 desoto the headlight wires are included inthe main section of the wiring harness. On my 39 the wires travel down to the dimmer switch on the lower left side of the floor board and then are still wrapped inthe main harness and then split out to the headlight junction box onthe top of my left front inner fender panel. Where the wire loom joint together it will split out as several branches one branch to the headlight junction box wires coming back from the gen to the volt regulator and then in the main trunk to the instrument panel all wrapped together in a mesh loom.
