Checking Electrical Items after Mice Attack - wiper motor question

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Was going through some electrical items today - running tests.

Seems the heater and wiper motor are OK, posted pics of the harness earlier, not too bad.

Radio, not so much, it will take some looking at.  ☹️

Question on the wiper motor switch, I am wondering just what this is......

Checked the manual and parts list to no avail?

As far as the radio, I did bypass the Spark Plate as the Spark Coil came disconnected from it,

but that should have no impact on function (based on my 4 years of HS Electronics classes)?

It is basically called a Capacitor in the radio manual?

Thanks, Bill

I believe that contact breaker whatzit has something to do with completing the wiper cycle so the blades park only at the rest position if the switch is turned off during an arm sweep

I can almost see that, connects Red to Green, I guess heat would trip it?

Yeah, it's actually just like any other CB just not in a case.

If I remember right it was the only protection on earlier ones...then they added a separate CB but kept that....idk why.

Same wiper switch as used in 1946-48 DeSoto and Chrysler.

FYI, As mentioned in this post.....

Newport Wipers,  https://newportwipers.com/  The Clean Wipe Wiper Drive is a true bolt-in replacement for your vintage vehicle’s OE vacuum or electric wiper motor

Not cheap, but what is for our vehicles?  (12V Required)
