billrigsby Posted August 13, 2020 Report Posted August 13, 2020 I'm getting ready to send a couple emails out to start getting quotes on machine work to get one of my blocks ready to be rebuilt. I don't want to miss anything and I've never actually rebuilt an automotive engine only two-stroke motorcycle engines. Can someone more knowledgeable than me provide a list of what services I will require starting with a hot tank dip and magnafluxing obviously. I could start listing the things I'm thinking about and ask a bunch of questions but I think it would be easier if I just got your input. Then if I have any further questions I can submit them. Thanks for helping out a newbie. Quote
kencombs Posted August 13, 2020 Report Posted August 13, 2020 (edited) First is measurements. Crank journals, and bore primarily. Let your machinist determine if decking the block or line boring is needed. I've personally never encountered a mopar flathead that needed either, but just to be sure. Head milling of course, either just cleanup or more to up compression, your choice. Replace cam bearings. I got lucky on mine for the pickup, it was an older rebuild and the .040 bores and .010/.010 crank was still in spec. Clean, mill and cam bearings did it for me. JBNeal Posted August 14, 2020 Report Posted August 14, 2020 I suggest hot tank the block then magnaflux to check for any cracks before putting any tools to it... 1 Quote
