unknown Posted August 1, 2020 Report Posted August 1, 2020 I have a 48 plymouth that I am swapping a 5.7 hemi into. I am planning on using the fatman fabrications caviler rack and pinion set up. My concern is safety. I am wondering if the caviler tie rod ends and the original suspension will hold up. I have rebuilt the stock suspension, done a scarebird disc brake conversion and used the fatman drop arms. Really don't want the steering to come apart at 80+MPH. Thanks for the help. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 1, 2020 Report Posted August 1, 2020 you have no worries...the Cavalier rack is just the source...the very same rack is used on the Chrysler LHS series sedans (albeit they are forward steer and not rear like the Cav...) and these cars were not anywhere near light and were used as police pursuits also....the rack is not GM by any means..it is world class TRW design.... unknown Posted September 10, 2020 Author Report Posted September 10, 2020 Thanks. That makes me feel a lot better about going this direction Quote
James_Douglas Posted September 12, 2020 Report Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) I am not so sure I agree with that. When I talked with both Flaming River and Unisteer... They said their racks are NOT for cars over 3500 pounds....makes me wonder... Edited September 12, 2020 by James_Douglas Quote
Sniper Posted September 12, 2020 Report Posted September 12, 2020 Flaming River racks are MII based (front steer), or Omni based (rear steer) from what I remember. Not the same racks at all. Quote
