PT81PlymouthPickup Posted July 12, 2020 Report Posted July 12, 2020 Just painstakingly rebuilt my distributor in my 1939 Plymouth pickup. While doing this I found corrosion around some of the plug wires where they insert into the cap. Decided to replace them with new resistor wires which are required if I decide to convert to Pertronix ignition. Anyhow, I'm hesitant to buy anything these days. Too many cheaply made products. Can anyone recommend a company that might make a high quality set for my truck? Preferably Not made in China? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted July 12, 2020 Report Posted July 12, 2020 If you plan on converting to Pertronix in the future I would recommend using their plug wires. That way you'll know you have good stuff for now, and they will be compatible when you make the swap. 1 Quote
Tooljunkie Posted July 13, 2020 Report Posted July 13, 2020 I have always gone with the name brand universal set. Then i can tailor make each wire for length. The trick is having the proper crimper to terminate the wires. borg-warnet and blue streak brands was what was available to me. but as mentioned, if you are planning to go the pertronics route its better to drop the coin on something compatible. Jeff Balazs Posted July 13, 2020 Report Posted July 13, 2020 I have a set of Belden Premium 7mm on my truck. I also fitted the Pertronix module and matched coil when I was building my truck. All of this is over 6 years old now and driven daily. I have had no problems at all with any of this. Honestly it has all been pretty much fit and forget. I have not had to touch any of it. One side benefit of the module that does not seem to get discussed is that the inside of the distributor cap ends up staying much cleaner than it would with conventional points. Hth, Jeff 1 Quote
