Shon Posted May 19, 2020 Report Posted May 19, 2020 I want to switch to 12 V on my 1951 Chrysler Windsor deluxe. I need a OEM wiring diagram to start. Anyone know where I can find one. Also how many circuits should I get for my new harness? Quote
Los_Control Posted May 19, 2020 Report Posted May 19, 2020 If your wiring is original, it probably does need to be replaced. But if your wiring is good, you do not need to change it for 12 volts. The 6 volt wiring is heavier then modern 12 volts and stronger. I have no advice on the new harness but know others will. Quote
Doug&Deb Posted May 19, 2020 Report Posted May 19, 2020 If you have the M6 trans be aware that 12 volt conversion can be problematic. Quote
Shon Posted May 20, 2020 Author Report Posted May 20, 2020 M6 trans is the fluid drive? Doug&Deb Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted May 20, 2020 Report Posted May 20, 2020 M6 trans is the semi auto transmission with fluid drive used on 49-52 cars. Quote
Doug&Deb Posted May 20, 2020 Report Posted May 20, 2020 Yes. The electric components don’t handle the conversion well. I’m sure someone on the forum has done this successfully. Hopefully they will weigh in. My Coronet is still 6 volt. Quote
Shon Posted May 21, 2020 Author Report Posted May 21, 2020 I work for a high end custom shop my wiring guy is pretty bad ass I think as long as I buy a boat load of resistors Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted May 21, 2020 Report Posted May 21, 2020 I think the only place you would see resistors would be in the radio. Quote
