I have a 230 flat head six and Power Flight tranny out of a 55 Dodge Coronet. Will these go in a 50 Chrysler Windsor without to major of a modification?

Thanks,

Todd

The 230 is 23.5 inches at the head the Chrysler engine is 25. Do able yes, bolt in no!  Gotta do something to adapt the front motor mounts.

It will under powered...lethargic to say the least.

I once drove a really nice 49 DeSoto convert with a 230  in it!

I was shocked to see that short engine in it when I opened the hood.

The new owner brought it to me for a tune up...said it didn't have much acceleration ..especially up hills...

He was not too thrilled when I gave him my answer.

His first old MoPar.

Looking at the specs the 50 DeSoto has a 236 ci engine that puts out 116 up and 208 lbft torque, the 55 Dodge 230. Is 120hp and 194 lbft.  Looks like a pretty small difference.  Plus the powerflite has a torque converter where the m6 didn't.

Do you know the engine/specs for 50 Windsor? From what I've seen it had what looked like a flat head 6.

Does a 50 Windsor have the  251 ci engine? I thought it did.
It definitely has the flathead.

My ‘53 has the 265 engine. Its fine in town. On steep hills she can maintain 30-35 mph.  No more.

But its 1953. It purrs. Its classy. Smooth. Good enough for me!

Yep 251 but specs don't change much, 116 up, 214 lbft.  Surprised by the lack ofhill climbing ability my 230 will pull hills with ease even older down for a road trip. Will hold 60 with no effort, and will accelerate from there if necessary.

I think for ease of installation/compatibility I should try to find a mid-50s Dodge 2 door roller. The problem I've had is if they are in decent shape, they are already complete. I'll keep looking.

Thanks for the input

Weight of car, number or passengers, diff ratio, percentage of road grade, condition of engine  tune, compression, car momentum and speed before approaching a hill all have a considerable impact.

My generic statement of hill climbing performance is very vague.
