Has anyone used one of the new one size fits all wiring harnesses  (such as speedway or painless), and changed the wiring from their alternator setup to a generator setup?

I did on my 51.

 

the Speedway kit I used (910-64022) instructions were real thin.  In this case thin really means that they didn't list what wire is what in all cases.  I really don't need a how to wire a car set of instructions, but a good schematic would have been nice. 

 

Since I figure Speedway had someone else make them I did some hunting and found American Autowire kit (510008) seemed to be the same and those instructions were what I needed.

Everything on the Speedway is good so far.  I just need to change the alternator harness to generator.  I can make that harness but I'd like to use as much of the speedway one as I can.

Sorry, I went from generator to alternator in my case.  Not a big fan of generators myself.  At some point I do plan to go with an AC system so 6v wasn't going to cut it.

with the change to 12 and aside from having a 12 gen on hand is one point for sure.....weigh the cost of on the road repair and limp in compared to the OTC cost of an alternator and couple minute fix about any town with a parts house....or unguarded car without a hood lock...?

even so...the question of service along the road generator verse alternator...still the main point if you are driving this pup out of a comfortable retrieval range of your home shop...even more  of a value with the alt if you are considering any electrical upgrades in say, AC, electric fan and or any modern booster stereo (given at you age  you can still hear)
