mackster Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 O.K. so I've been thinking of a way to do it, but there is knowledge in this forum, and I would like to steal it! so here it goes. I have a dual exhaust and a dual carb set up (Ellis) that I got from E-gay. I think it looks good. However I will need a linkage for the carbs as they will now be facing sideways due to the new dual carb set up. Any Ideas out there. Don, I 'm looking your way..... Quote
mackster Posted September 22, 2007 Author Report Posted September 22, 2007 Here's another view, sorry for the quality is raining here in Cali and I only have my camera phone.... Quote
Normspeed Posted September 22, 2007 Report Posted September 22, 2007 One way would be to get 4 flanges and two sections of pipe and weld up two 90 degree adaptors. I've heard somewhere the dual setups like to have a bit of a spacer under the carbs. Quote
mackster Posted September 22, 2007 Author Report Posted September 22, 2007 Are the spacers to keep the carbs from the heat? I assume the aluminum intake may get hot.... Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 Contact forum member bloodyknuckles. His profile link is below. He has 3 sideways mounted carburetors on his black Plymouth that I had the opportunity to drive today. http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/member.php?u=257 Quote

claybill Posted September 23, 2007 Report Posted September 23, 2007 i believe pick up trucks used a linkage along the firewall , and came toward the carbs from the passenger side.. bill Quote

greg g Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 If you will note, the cast manifolds mount the carbs lower than the stock manifold. this might have been to provide hood clearence for the later models from the Sweptline era. If you car is late 40's early 50's you might solve your problem with the aluminum 90 degree offset adapters. You should be able to get these from Vintage speed or Langdons. they will allow you to mount your carbs inthe original position and utilize Offenhouser linkage or some of George Ashe's stuff, or cobble up some like I did. these will also isolate your carbs a bit from the heat of beingmounted down by the exhaust and head. You might also look into his phenolic isolators. I am running a set of his thickest one on my Fenton intake to raise the carbs up and give them some heat insulation. Quote
