cerick305 Posted November 12, 2018 Report Posted November 12, 2018 My '47 special deluxe starts strong, but then slips after holding down the starter for more than 2-3 seconds. I would need to do this 5-6 times for it to start. I just recently replaced the starter, but had this problem before hand. Quote

9 foot box Posted November 13, 2018 Report Posted November 13, 2018 Bad Bendix starter gear. It turns the engine over and then spins. When it retracts it gets a different bite, till it spins again. 1 Quote
Ajgkirkwood Posted November 14, 2018 Report Posted November 14, 2018 i had an issue similar, my starter was rebuilt but it slipped, it was the 1 way bearing that was on the starter, the bearing is on the teeth that engage the flywheel 1 Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 14, 2018 Report Posted November 14, 2018 Bad sprag clutch drive in starter drive? Quote
dpollo Posted November 16, 2018 Report Posted November 16, 2018 In 1952, the starter drive was changed to minimize this problem, and it worked. If you can get a starter from 52 to 55, change the whole unit. 1 Quote
