For that kinda money, you can get a 6v positive alternator if originality isn't an issue. they are available through many F*ord Model A sites.

WOW! has been my reaction to the cost to get a number of things fixed on my truck. I am at my utter limit, but I told the mechanic to go ahead with the generator rebuild. Thanks for the offer Merle. I will keep you in mind as a second alternative. I saw one on eBay a few weeks ago that went for $80. i of course didn't think I was going to be needing it. I may have to do what I suspect some of you guys do and stockpile parts.

One other thought you said your mechanic, having someone get ,fix and install parts adds a lot of overhead to the price. Many here do there own work which keep the price down.
