Nick Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 I have a 218 that’s got water in the oil. Any recommendations for a mechanic in the high desert area of California to diagnose and repair? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 Could it be from condensation, or has it been open to the elements at any time? Are you sure it's coming from the cooling system? Maybe change the oil, run it, and see if the water comes back? Quote
Nick Posted February 8, 2018 Author Report Posted February 8, 2018 Hi Merle Thank you for your response Unfortunately it’s coming from the cooling system. Groannnnnnn Thanks again Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 Could simply be a blown head gasket. Easy to remove the head for inspection. Quote

Definitely start with this. Is (or was) the cooling system filled with straight water, or an anti-freeze mix? If water (or if the anti-freeze is not up to spec), any chance it's been in sub-freezing temps for any length of time? Quote
Nick Posted February 8, 2018 Author Report Posted February 8, 2018 Hi Elwood Thank you for your reply. It has anti-freeze mix and we haven’t had any freezing temperatures. Quote
59bisquik Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 I don’t have a shop up here that does engine work for me. I do have a shop in Baldwin Park that does Machine work on old school engines if you need a rebuild. Anybody I called up here knew nothing about my Hemi and got hooked up with these guys from some of the El Mirage land speed guys. As for antifreeze in the water. I would agree that most likely it is a head gasket which is pretty easy to replace. Quote
Nick Posted February 8, 2018 Author Report Posted February 8, 2018 Thanks to all for the advice! I will go forth and conquer..... Quote
59bisquik Posted February 8, 2018 Report Posted February 8, 2018 Got a pic of your truck Nick? I have seen a white one over on 395 before... Quote

59bisquik Posted February 9, 2018 Report Posted February 9, 2018 Tom over at Auto-Dynamic Balancing was the only one semi local that knew my old Hemi and does a lot of flathead stuff besides the newer stuff. Quote
59bisquik Posted February 9, 2018 Report Posted February 9, 2018 Not the one I have seen a few times, but very cool! Quote
