Does anyone know if a Chrysler spitfire flat 6 head will fit a dodge 218 long block ?

I just like the head because it not plan and boring like the stock head on the 218

The guy that has the head says he doesn’t know much about it others than it’s from 49-55 and it’s for a long block.

i think it will bolt on but other than that I don’t know if I’ll run into any other issues?

On the internal external head business.

Use the earlier t/stat housing for an external waterpump style.

This should make it work...

What year of 218?

Older than 51 no issues newer some issues...

Ok got it. I hope the machine shop knows how much I can shave off to boost compression ? What do you guys think ?

Okay you are using the 250 Spitfire head?

Has it been milled prior?

Has the block been decked?

On your 218?

If you have a 250 or even a 265 you can use the crank and rods in your engine.

On the cam is it stock? Or higher lift custom?

Deck block .010 and head .050 this should raise compression and not cause issues with the valves.

Now the 250 spitfire head is most likely chambered for more volume than the 218. They were like 6.5 to 7 :1.

Now ask dpollo or PM Tim Kingsbury either one can steer you right on this topic.

Lots have milled these heads upwards to .080 or even .100.

Post the engine number to verify what you have.

It might be like D25 ******* C or similar....

Your 47 in your Avatar looks like a P15 Plymouth or at least the grill looks Plymouth.

Which is it?

If you have the 1947 engine that head if also pre 1950 should be no issue for fit.

I would be concerned about CC volume and lower compression because of it..

My 218 is a 25c 1947

the head is on CL with no other  engine parts just the head . I like it just for the fact it says spitfire and would like to just machine it and paint it to match my car and use it

the guy that has it know nothing about it or what it came off it just came with a 48 desoto he acquired along with a box of small parts

My motor is stock other than I’m sure it has been rebuilt at some point ? It was in the car looking mint when I bought it

runs really sweet no burning oil just purrs like a kitten

No i am fully aware of the D25 and P15 lineup for Canada.

Your grill.is not from a D25 as far as i can tell from the picture.

Now the grill on the P15 is stainless the Dodge D25 is cast and looks much different.

The engines will be the same though.

All the trim is powered coated maybe that’s why it looks different? I think I attached a photo of a better look at the grill ?

Looks like your right

kind of like it without what you think ?

It looks just fine.

The D25 grills were meant to look like the D24 full size USA Dodges which were a step up in the lineup

The SPITFIRE head was found most often on  the 1949 Chrysler.  If you put it on a Canadian Plymouth or Dodge it will look nice but will lower your compression because it is designed for a bore of 3 7/16 and stroke of 4 1/2. The Plymouth and Dodge P15 and D25 had a bore of 3 3/8 and stroke of 4 1/16.

Spitfire engines and their heads used an external bypass even in 51.    Therefore the head does not have the extra water passage art the front.

So the short answer to your question is Yes.  if you are not into performance.

Passed on the head boys thanks for all the help , I’ll keep on looking

cheers

Whats wrong with either the stock head shaved or an aftermarket finned aluminum $$$$$$$.

Vintage Edmunds are huge dollars for the long blocks.

Theoretically the 218 with its shortest of them all strokes could rev up nicely.

Shave the head, deck block, and go with a hotter cam.

Then add dual carbs and exhaust to complete the job...
