Merle Coggins Posted August 4, 2017 Report Posted August 4, 2017 Appears to be a '48-'52 3/4 ton Express box Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 4, 2017 Report Posted August 4, 2017 Welcome to the forum. Only thing I can tell you is it came off a blue truck that was in a crash Sorry I have been watching too many forensic files episodes. Where in Indiana are you located? Quote
NewB11 Posted August 4, 2017 Author Report Posted August 4, 2017 I am located in near Indianapolis but the box is at my parents place in Alberta Canada. Here is another shot of it. I'm trying to get as much info on it for my folks as I can. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 4, 2017 Report Posted August 4, 2017 There are several forum members in the Indianapolis area. Found this on Craigslist in Shelbyville. https://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/d/1940-dodge-wc-truck/6212256592.html Quote
Young Ed Posted August 4, 2017 Report Posted August 4, 2017 Just now, Don Coatney said: There are several forum members in the Indianapolis area. That is a 1940 1ton. Should be a VD21 I believe. 1 Quote
NewB11 Posted August 4, 2017 Author Report Posted August 4, 2017 Thanks for the info. Know of any people/clubs of people in Canada who may know about these or have any insight? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted August 4, 2017 Report Posted August 4, 2017 Being in Canada it likely isn't a 3/4 ton bed. And now that I look at it again it has a third stake pocket in the center, so it must be a 1 ton box for a 1948 - 1952 B-Series Dodge truck. Either from a '48-'49 B1D, a '50 B2D, or a '51-'52 B3D. It doesn't appear to have the extensions for dual wheels, so it must be for the single wheel version. Do you know the length of it? It should be around 9 feet long. Quote
NewB11 Posted August 4, 2017 Author Report Posted August 4, 2017 Wow...that's really interesting. We did measure it and it was a 9 foot bed. Was that common for that age of truck? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted August 4, 2017 Report Posted August 4, 2017 The 1 ton trucks were available as a Cab-Chassis for use with a flat bed or other special application, such as service bodies. Or you could get a 1 Ton Express, which came with that 9 foot "pickup" bed (Express Body). Quote
dpollo Posted August 7, 2017 Report Posted August 7, 2017 9 foot beds were found on 3/4 and 1 ton pickups and in Canada too. Yours is in good shape (relatively speaking) so would be of value to someone. A lot of these trucks on the Canadian prairies had the tail gate removed and a grain box placed inside the box. I got an unused Fargo tailgate which had been left in the barn. The rest of the truck may still be out there somewhere. I was told there were no fewer than 9 box combinations available on these trucks. Short Medium and Long, Shallow and deep, flat top sides or slopers. that's 7. Quote
