A very unique Chevy....at cruise-in tonite

Went to a cruise-in tonite (Sat) in Nixa, MO, just south of Springfield.

Auto turnout was minimal due to the rain we had in the area late in the afternoon.....it really poured for a while.

Had planned to take the Plym....but did not....due to the weather.

They were supposed to have a live band, featuring a fellow I know, but did not because of the rain. So we ate at the Cruisin' USA 50s theme restaurant at the shopping center, sat and visited with my sister and brother-in-law, listened to music played by a DJ, and looked at the few cars that did brave the elements. It rained some more, lightly, later in the evening.

My favorite car there was this 1939 Chevy....pulled from a salvage yard....built in 6 months by a young man and his father. Had a Chevy V8 and running gear, and lots of custom touches.

The interior was just as unique as the exterior. Had a nice shifter boot.

The antifreeze can contained a coil of copper tubing and some ice cubes...the oil cooler.

On the rear were a set of those little wheels used on drag cars doing wheelies. Also a parachute for stopping at end of the strip.

Tail lights were nifty, too.....

The DJ tossed out some musical trivia questions, and we won a couple ditty bags of car goods provided by an auto supply

store......

Hey Bob..what a collection of items on that car. I see a couple of things recently dicussed there. The chain pull switch on the dash is one of them. One thing for certain, with the items on the cowl he will never get a hood mounted. Liked the smaller swing petals and hydraulic clutch setup...make shifting a breeze...could not really determine what he used for a front bumper.

And who could over look the SHIFTER BOOT ??

PS..just noticed..it is also parked in the URGENT CARE area and pray tell, what is a hinge doing on the right rear fender? Inquiring minds want to know...

Tim...the front bumper is the little known lakes pipe nerf bar.

The hinges were a way to attach the flapping fender edge with humor.

And this is one of the oil filters (with pressure guage) that uses a roll of

toilet paper.

Had a vintage sound system, too.

I thought that looked like a lake pipe cap..but it could also had been a radiator cap in the first set of pictures...so I thought I would best ask. This one may be a bit hard to top for while.

The head light stands and bubble covers look like some distinct PERIOD items...

Bob,

You did not mention that "high mounted" hood ornament. No, not the

"rat fink" on the radiator shell, the other one -- the one mounted

above that!!

Bob;

Are you sure this is an oil cooler? Back in the day when I was drag racing a 55 furd and it vapor locked mid way through the run I went home and coiled a fuel line through a coffee can, filled the can with ice, and never had anymore vapor lock problems. I think this is a fuel line in ice in thie pictured car.

Talked to my sister tonight.....she said they went to another car show Sunday in a small town near Springfield. And the ol Chevy was there, too.

Said it won 3 different trophies there.

When I took my scrap pile A model truck to an Auto show here in 2005 I won peoples choice and second in best of show class!! I have never had so many people so mad at me at one time- they were furious.I thought it was funny but the big bucks guys must have had their egos on their sleeve.
