John Mulders Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Finally time for this, bit scary as this seems always a way to scratch the paint. Wasn't to hard and went smoother than I expected. Left side fender trim does have some space, the fender was rebuild so that could be causing this. Also needed to change a broken headlight, did not put it in for the picture. Question on the "special the luxe" One I have is all chrome, the other seems to have red paint between the characters. I don't really like the red with the cruiser maroon of the car. Was the red original? Thanks John Left front right front http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v385/P15John/DSC00595.jpg Special the luxe http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v385/P15John/DSC00596.jpg Quote
eric wissing Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 John, your car is looking great. Mine has the red. You could buff them and it would look good either way. Eric Quote
greg g Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 John, watch the little cowl pieces. I have one side where I put the clips on upside down. that piece is about 1/8 lower thantheadjoining ones. And yes the red goes between the letters. Same red as the script on the hubcaps, should alos go into the area around the ship on the hood piece, and in the relieved letters on the trunk stoop lamp bezel. If you don't like it make it satin black, then the lettres will float against the maroon. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 good idea greg. or paint the spaces to match the car. but they were originally always red. as was the piece on the very front of the hood and lettering on the brake light. Quote
steveplym Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Looks real good John. I repainted my trim pieces with the red paint not to long ago. Used some modeling paint and a brush. Hubcaps and rear stop lamp bezel turned out real nice. These cars look so much better with the trim on them. Really brings out the paint. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 The trim really breaks up the long panels and define the soft rounds of the fenders and grille and tops of doors. Plus the darker the base coat of the car's color, the more the trim effect seems to be...will be a headturner when finished for sure... Quote
John Mulders Posted July 28, 2007 Author Report Posted July 28, 2007 thanks ! also makes the car look less like a beetle (see earlier post where the angle was in such a way that it did look like it!). I think I have a go with the red , if I don't like it I can always remove it. I will need to drill new holes for the cowl trim so a matter of measuring 5 times (have a couple of mishaps (not with the car) where I thought I measured ok). Yes, Shel, I am looking forward to the pieces. Tomorrow perhaps some time for the door panels. Have the plates and will need to cut them. Next week Thursday I will be two weeks to the Netherland, trying to find a room for the youngest one who will be going to university in Utrecht. Very difficult as the rooms are scarse and you need to visit the other students to be accepted. Will have a drive tomorrow with the oldest one who is on vacation now. John Quote
eric wissing Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 John, My son is in Amsterdamn today. He just finished an internship in London. He was mugged about 5:00 this morning on his way to a bus to take him to the Netherlands. Lost all of his money and credit cards but is OK. I talked to him today and he was on some party boat? Quick recovery!! Maybe your son could take the car to the Netherlands? He would stand out and could live in it, maybe even sublet the trunk . Eric Quote
John Mulders Posted July 29, 2007 Author Report Posted July 29, 2007 Eric, sorry to hear about the mugging. If he is on a party boat already it may have not been that bad (no guns or so?). Netherlands are reasonably safe, like any place there are areas you should avoid. Drove in Miami once, took the wrong turn and ended up lost in a less pleasant neighbourhood. Kept driving and didn't stop for directions Even on this island there are areas you just don't go. Hmm, not sure I like the idea of my son taking the car. Mine has no heather in it and global warming doesn't go that fast. Plenty of family there so they will have to provide shelter ! John Quote
eric wissing Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 He was mugged in London on his way to Amsterdamn. No guns, or weapons, just a Sunday punch. Here (At the wrong place) they would have have shot him. Just a hassle, no credit card and had to leave. The Police were not too helpful, they just kept asking him if he was on anything? He wasn't but I guess it is ok to mug people who are high. Good luck with your son. Eric Quote
