FinnGT Posted February 8, 2017 Report Posted February 8, 2017 (edited) Hello This is my first American car. The car is pretty bad shape and some parts are missing. Car is imported to Finland in 1957 and it has been run last time in 1997. 251CID 6 cylinder/ Fluid Drive. The speedometer reading is in Kilometers instead of miles. More pictures later.... casper50 Posted February 8, 2017 Report Posted February 8, 2017 Welcome to the site Finn. It's worth saving. Go for it. Quote
rb1949 Posted February 8, 2017 Report Posted February 8, 2017 Enjoy the Mopar party. I can't work out in the cold either. Quote
dpollo Posted February 8, 2017 Report Posted February 8, 2017 After studying your pictures, I think that car is in better shape than you might think. These are very nice cars to drive and ride in but you will not be winning many drag races. I had a Saratoga which was the V8 in the same Windsor-size body and it was very quick. It eventually went to Europe. Good luck ! 1 Quote
FinnGT Posted February 9, 2017 Author Report Posted February 9, 2017 (edited) Thanks guys. Cold weather is not so bad I think that this model is no very common in here. There is no rust holes in the car and engine is not jammed. Previous owner has bought new brake drums and tyres. He has also redone front and rear seats. Wiring is toasted and need replacement. I'm keeping 6 volt system. Crome parts Are gone. somebody has sandblasted the bumpers and then painted in silver. I ordered new brake hoses, coil, master cylinder, carb rebuil kit and new battery. FinnGT Posted February 11, 2017 Author Report Posted February 11, 2017 I think that this car has very nice steering wheel and i started to fix that. something to do inside, only the smell is really bad(steering wheel smells like cat pee). I'm going to glue the pieces together with Kent Rapid Bond and then use PC7 epoxy to fill holes. Quote
rb1949 Posted February 11, 2017 Report Posted February 11, 2017 I would be looking for a new wheel. Less work. Shipping can't be a good thing. Quote
FinnGT Posted February 21, 2017 Author Report Posted February 21, 2017 I think it is worth trying.... Little progress with this. Redone some wiring, new battery+cables and new bulbs(6v). Quote
FinnGT Posted April 11, 2017 Author Report Posted April 11, 2017 Winter is over much has been done since last post. I got the car running, Brakes are all new, Wiring is mostly done. I'm trying to repair oil leaks... Streering wheel(still needs work) 2 Quote
rb1949 Posted April 11, 2017 Report Posted April 11, 2017 Success comes piece by piece. And some driving to enjoy. Can't believe that wheel came out so nice. Quote

Don Coatney Posted April 11, 2017 Report Posted April 11, 2017 Are the brake lines copper? If so they should be change out to steel lines. Quote

FinnGT Posted April 12, 2017 Author Report Posted April 12, 2017 some pictures.... Gauges and clock, all working now. new wires new hub caps Still leaking Removed oilpan 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 12, 2017 Report Posted April 12, 2017 Copper lines are prone to cracking with vibration. I do suggest you order steel lines from where never they are available and if you do not have a good double flaring tool and tube bender buy them if you don't already have those tools. 1 Quote
FinnGT Posted April 19, 2017 Author Report Posted April 19, 2017 (edited) I have never had those broblems with copper lines, but i will change steel lines if i can find right sized tube. dpollo Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 Great progress ! How many of you noticed the Kilometer scale on the speedometer? Took me more than one view. It suggests that the car was originally intended for sale in Europe. Showing just under what may be 110 000 kms which is roughly 70 000 miles. Lots of life left in the mechanicals. Quote
MackTheFinger Posted April 24, 2017 Report Posted April 24, 2017 FinnGT, Your car is turning out great!! It's impressive how much you've accomplished in such a short time.. 1 Quote
FinnGT Posted October 9, 2017 Author Report Posted October 9, 2017 There is no progress in here, only driving, 5000km and no problems. That is pretty good for a car that's been in a barn for a 19 years. No its time to rest this winter. 1 Quote
