ronnieT50 Posted August 15, 2016 Report Posted August 15, 2016 Hello I have a question or actually a favor to ask if possible. I have 1950 Plymouth B.C. I bought a few years back and like many here in the east the rocker panel and floors are shot. I have enough of the floor and floor braces to make new patterns but the outer rockers are so far gone I really only have a general idea as to how they are supposed to be shaped. I have the equipment to fabricate them I just don't have any templates to go by. So here is my question or favor if you will, would anyone here happen to have pictures of their P19 rockers top and bottom when they were working or restoring their car .It could be a 2 dr. 4dr. or b.c. I don't care ,any of those would help. Now don't go outside and lay on the ground and take pictures, I would never ask someone to do that, I just thought if someone already had some pics. Thanks, Ronnie Quote
Fastback50 Posted August 15, 2016 Report Posted August 15, 2016 Here are some photos I INADVERTENTLY took of the underside of the rocker panels while trying to assess the massive amounts of rust damage under my car. Surprisingly my rockers are somewhat solid, it's the floor braces and outer braces (correct term?) that are toasted on mine. Anyway, if you need me to take GOOD photos let me know, I've got some time tonight and could get whatever angles you need Quote
suntennis Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 (edited) Had problem getting photos to this page. Edited August 16, 2016 by suntennis Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 I got photos or them installed...but that will not help you much......you can look on e-bay and get a photograph of those offered for sale....with this picture and especially with the end shown, you can take a few measurements at random good places on your car to assign values to go by when you brake your metal Quote
ronnieT50 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Report Posted August 16, 2016 Thanks a bunch 330. The problem Im having is the actual shape of the bottom of the outer rocker as I want to create the correct shape so I bought set of those c to c replacements to use as a guide line (cheap enough) but that was a waste as they appear way too round on the bottom and just cant seem to find another P19 anywhere around here to compare to .I would assume the P18 would be the same or even 51 and 52 models might be the same ,just not having any luck finding one to look at . thanks again Ronnie Quote
ronnieT50 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Report Posted August 16, 2016 believe me plymouthy ,I have looked at every image offered on the net and have yet to find one of the bottom of the outer rocker,Thanks Ronnie Quote
ronnieT50 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Report Posted August 16, 2016 330, that last picture helped me determine that they should be much flatter then the replacement panels I purchased and Im not running down the quality of the replacement its just that Im well ....................pickey you might say. Thanks again, Ronnie Quote
ronnieT50 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Report Posted August 16, 2016 Oh, and thanks for trying Suntennis I really do appreciate all the help Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 I have installed a couple sets of these...I have a set upstairs now....they are not flat on the bottom.... Quote
suntennis Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 The original rocker as Adams said is not flat on the bottom which would be a 90 degree bend. They were maybe 100 degree like bend. I bought a set from Plymouth Doctor and his were 90 degrees which had to be modified some. The radius of the bend is the same throughout the rocker but the distance from the end of the bend to the edge or inner rocker is not the same front to rear. Quote
Fastback50 Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 Glad to help Ronnie--it's the least I can do after all the help I've had from others on this site Like I said, feel free to PM me if you need more precise pics. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 Glad to help Ronnie--it's the least I can do after all the help I've had from others on this site Like I said, feel free to PM me if you need more precise pics. while the pictures you posted are great...the rocker trim is on the vehicle in your picture and clearly hides the curve of the rocker. you will notice how the trim is flat but yet at the very bottom stands clear of the curved rocker when fixed in placed..the rocker trim clip when fastened to the rocker at the very bottom extends flat beyond the curve of the rocker giving the illusion of a flat area. The inner rocker is straight bends if you will, but not the outer and further no rocker I have seen has yet been made to copy the crisp the J bend at the top....they get close...but cannot duplicate this PRESSED feature..you have to find an exact Mopar replacement rocker from the old days to get these features. I installed one set of the Mopar rockers, that was many moons ago and have not seen another set offered for sale since Quote
ronnieT50 Posted August 16, 2016 Author Report Posted August 16, 2016 Ok I believe you fellows are right ,it looks like the rockers do have a lot of curve to them. I mocked the replacements up on the coupe and with some help held my rocker molding up tight against everything and it appears to have about the same gap at the base of the rocker and rocker molding as in the picture that 330 posted so Im going with that , except Im going to make my own from 18 gauge . I measured the replacements and they are 20 gauge plus they are trimmed short in a couple of places. If I didn't have every thing here to make a new set with some extra meat on them ,I would use the C to C's as they could be made to fit with some tweekiing . I want to thank each one of you for your help. I like this place. I will post a picture of one of the rockers when I get it done. Ronnie Quote
DJ194950 Posted August 17, 2016 Report Posted August 17, 2016 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1949-1950-Plymouth-2-Door-Sedan-NOS-MoPar-Left-ROCKER-PANEL-1348395-/361320287388?hash=item54205e0c9c:g:~K0AAOSweW5VfFlA&vxp=mtr I bought several of these about 8 years ago as someone had bought an old Big stock of aftermarket replacement panels that were stamped out. Not done with just a sheet metal brake. All 2door and 4 dr. panel I Bought had the same angle front to back! NOT Flat. Were selling for about 1/2 price then, but EBAY Plymouth parts are averaging overall about that now from then. If nothing else maybe ask him to send a couple more pics more for you of different angles to see? DJ Quote
