jcmiller Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 I ran my battery charger for about an hour on the 12 volt setting. Do you think that damaged the 6 volt battery? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 You will have a well charged battery. It did not over heat did it... boil lotsa acid ? Run it! Quote
oldodge41 Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 As long as it is still full of water I think it will be fine. If it boiled some out I would add distilled water and run it. I have mistakenly used 12 volt chargers on 6 volt batteries too.Although I don't recommend it I never hurt one. Quote
jcmiller Posted August 12, 2016 Author Report Posted August 12, 2016 Thx. It did not feel overly warm so it is probably OK. I guess I'll find out soon enough. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 voltage is one thing. current is yet another..most off the shelf chargers have a trickle rate of 2A and a faster charge rate of 6A...it is best to charge at the lower 2A rating for longer period and yes correct voltage...but 6A for one hour only,...you should really be ok as long as your plates were submersed in acid at the time... _shel_ny Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 your 6V/12V move probably went better than mine. A while back I had a couple of 6V sealed beam headlamps that I wanted to check. I have a 6V charger that I generally use for testing 6V stuff. I was in a hurry, and did not want to dig the charger out to plug in for a simple quick test. It was much quicker to just use the battery in the ATV as it was sitting right there. You can probably guess how that worked out. Fortunately I figured it out quickly, and was able to save 1 headlamp. Quote
BigDaddyO Posted August 13, 2016 Report Posted August 13, 2016 You just need to bleed off all the 12 volt power before using it for 6 volt stuff. 2 Quote
