Had my '48 Chrysler out Sunday and notice that the odometer is not working but the trip odometer is working. Any ideas on what might be wrong? I figure one of the gears I shipping or lost its teeth.

Most all 1946-48 Chrysler odometers or trip odometers will fail sooner or later. The pot metal gears usually fail.

I have never found someone who has parts and can fix one permanently.

I have 6 or 7 of them that are all damaged the same.

Quite a project to pull the unit and examine those intricate pieces. My '49 assy works with a bench test, but when installed, doesn't register speed. Good luck.

Thanks for all the information. I did look at it to see what it would take to pull it and it does look like a involved job. I guess I'll have to live with it for the time being.

I had good luck with a little oil on my $5 1938 Coupe speedometer I bought.

I used sewing  machine oil on the gears, shafts, etc.      Speed and odometer working good now..
