Okay this is something I've never thought about before but I have a boat trailer with two wheels and I'm wondering if I should rotate the tires.

I looked at the wear patterns on the tires such as they are but they're fairly low mileage and one is a little older than the other so it has some wear where the other one is practically new.

Thus I find it very difficult to judge based on that evidence.

I have owned this boat and trailer 15 years, and I've been through a couple of tires, but this is the first time I ever thought about rotating them.

Unless you do massive amounts of hi-way travel I'd expect the tires to die of old age before they wear out.

These are little tires 4.80 x 12.

I'm sure they're bias-ply & they're the same cheap little boat trailer tires that Carlisle was making since the fifties.

Virtually all the miles are highway miles on this trailer as there are no Lakes right in town. ;)

I usually seem to wear the tread off or they start chunking.

...4.80 x 12...  That's what is on my mortar mixer......

Can you fit a larger tire/wheel to the trailer? Those little things gotta be spinning a million rpm at freeway speed.

Back when we first got married (1983) we had a small 1-wheel trailer that we moved to Texas & back to Ohio with, pulling it behind an 80 Datsun.  It had that same size wheel & tire.  Yeah, they sing at highway speed.

They sing on the road, but in the desert they start to drum.

...When they get hot enough to delaminate and chunk tread that is.

Thum thum thum thum thum thum   POOM!   thip thip thip thip...
